1999:the best year in movies ever?? Maybe...

I was looking for something to read and stumbled upon a book that claims that 1999 is THE BEST year in movies ever. I harrumphed... but then I looked at the list. DAMN! A lot of good movies came out in 1999 - maybe not anything that I would consider a favorite of all time, but A LOT OF GOOD MOVIES.

Here's IMDB list of the top rated movies of 1999: [www.imdb.com]

And here, I just grab some titles (the numbering is IMDB's - I skipped some that I deemed unworthy - you might feel otherwise):

1. American Beauty

2. The Green Mile

3. The Matrix

4. The Sixth Sense

5. The Cider House Rules

6. All About My Mother

7. Angela's Ashes

10. Titus

11. Boys Don't Cry

12. Being John Malkovich

13. The Blair Witch Project

15. Magnolia

17. Stir of Echoes

18. Go

19. Sunshine

22. The Straight Story

23. Fight Club

24. Girl, Interrupted

25. Toy Story 2

31. Election

32. Man on the Moon

37. The Hurricane

1939 was good. It seems like 1969 was.

Read an article a while back saying 1974 was one of the all-time best years for films.

Gone With the Wind was made closer to the time period it portrayed than it is to today.

It has been posited that 1939 and 1999 were Hollywood's two best years of all time.
