Olive Garden

It isn’t the most upscale place but I enjoy the food there. It isn’t as awful as I hear some people make it out to be. I am down for at least a dozen bowls of soup in a sitting.

Don't know, never been to one. Not about to any time soon, the closest ones are nearly an hours drive from here. Places much closer if I want "Italian" food.

Breadsticks and Alfredo sauce. Yum.

This is pretty much how I feel about it.

No matter what I order, it feels like salad and bread sticks.

The name Olive Garden tells me it doesn't speak carnivore.

For me, the price (no offense pRICE) to satisfaction ratio is a little high.

It's the Denny's of Italian food.

Not a fan of OG, but not because it does not meet my high standards of haute cuisine--I'm just not a fan of pasta-based dishes in general. I can find something to eat on the menu, but I won't lobby to go there.

I do have an opinion similar to pRICE with regards to Red Lobster.

"Pasta" that seems to be made primarily from Elmer's glue and sawdust.

"Cheese" that seems to be mostly sawdust and really bad artificial "cheese" flavor.

"Alfredo" sauce that seems to be primarily spoiled milk.

"Breadsticks" that are obviously made from the cheapest bleached flour with minimal binder so it's as nutritionally empty as anything can get and still have calories.

"Salad" that's just iceberg lettuce with a tiny bit of shredded cabbage for color. Maybe an olive sliced thin to make it look like more than it is. Maybe the tiniest dusting of shredded carrot.

Even the "butter" seems to be some sort of cheap hydrolyzed vegetable oil and color with fake butter flavor.

But the "food" is cheap. I'll give 'em that.

Denny's is better.

Usually.

Denny's seems to be running on a sine wave with good decades and bad. I think they're coming off of a bad decade now and the food is subtly better. In five years, it might be worth going back.

LOL, that's definitely NSFW.

I never claimed this to be Italian food. Panda Express isn't authentic Chinese food.

There are too many good local Italian eateries to eat frozen, mass-produced, over-priced imitation Italian, I feel the same about Chipotle Mexican or PF Chang Chinese. Look around, there are better options

But if you like it, go for it. I just won't be joining you for lunch.

It's consistent, fairly priced, OK food.
Seems to be a good working model model for them.

I had the Whole Grain Pasta with 4 Cheese Sauce. Then I ate all I could eat salad, soups, and breadsticks. Then I had a lovely nap with a happy belly.

Our local Red Lobster is excellent. I have eaten at others that were not.

IF I'm in the mood for the Garden, I will go, but I usually will order:

Toasted Ravioli
2 meatballs
Meatsauce

That's what I like from there. Everything else is meh...

.this

Biggest issue with 'chain/franchised' restaurants are the ingredients.
Much of their product is factory produced (aka-commissaries), then distributed
to the retail store. None of this is fresh like a local eatery can provide.

Not unlike wallys or bezos operations, when you purchase by the trailer-load and
use low wage workers you can sell a cheap product with good margins.

To each their own I guess. old fogey smiley

I like both Olive Garden and Red Lobster...and their upscale cousins, too, Carrabas and Bonefish Grill. Especially while traveling!

Sure, there are better places. But there are a lot worse ones, too, and how much time do you want to spend tracking them down and taking the risk that they'll disappoint when you're on vacation with your family? Solid product, reasonable price, good chance of decent service and sometimes excellent service.

+1 for Outback Steakhouse too, although it's fun to call it Steakback Outhouse.

You would take your family to Olive Garden while on vacation??

Dunno where to go? Ask the concierge for a recommendation. If you're not in a hotel with a good restaurant or two then pick a better hotel just for dinner. Check Yelp. Google for fine-dining in the area. Check the website of the local paper for reviews of restaurants. There are soooo many options.
