I am 35 for another eight days and I also prefer "mid thirties" to "late thirties".

Just celebrated my 12th annual 49th birthday.

I act the same age as Phy.

I'm turning the corner to 40.

I want to see if this really is where life begins.

I was carded occasionally into my mid-30s. Doesn't happen anymore. Guess I look 21 now!

35

It always makes me think of an '80s TV commercial where the youngish slicked-back-hair businessman says "I'm gonna beat the market and retire by 35." After which a video overlay clanks on the screen saying: Convicted For Insider Trading.

Too much TV, I guess…

Happened to me last Friday, but they were carding everyone, so I shouldn't take it as a compliment. I will anyway. =)

Like bangman wrote...here in SoCal NOBODY tells their real age, and I'm not about to start a new trend! Suffice to say I have a 22-year-old daughter, my 2nd wife is 16 years younger than I am, and my Military Macaw "Tio" is going to be 19 in May.

That's all I'm tellin'..I plead the 5th. smiling smiley

Surprising results. I would have guessed the median age to be 30 something, but now it seems to be between 40 and 50. I'll leave the calculations to microchip.

Too bad Rexrzer, Tio just told Precious my Goffins Cockatoo your age, but I'll never tell.

Precious will be sixteen this year and she was glad to hear that another forum member was owned by a bird.

I'm 3 but act much more mature.

No really 58, but 59 in two weeks.

I can still remember the day when I thought that there was not much left after age 25. I guess I was wrong.

I designed and built a machine ( lights, switches, and relays) to play Nim for a thesis.

My work has always been a combination of hardware and software. Some early examples were a RW300 system that was the first use of a computer to "close the loop" to control an industrial process ( a catalytic cracker), also a software system to facilitate preparation of input to automatic machine tools used in the airframe industry. The RW300 system eventually made it to a computer time line display at the Smithsonian, where it came after Babbage,Univac, and IBM machines.

Most of the early work was classified since only the military (with your tax dollars) could afford the early hardware. Costs for typical projects were about 90% hardware and 10% software. If I recall correctly in the late 50's disc memory (actually drum) cost about $1/byte and flipfops were about $100 each and the cost of RAM was out of sight. The industry had just switched from William's tube storage(charge on the face of a crt ) to core memory(strung by hand). Core memory came all the way down to about $2000/byte by the mid 60's.

Things have changed. But watch out things seem to me to be changing faster each year. You all are going to have a hard time remembering what 2006 was like in 2026.

Good Luck to you all and have fun. We are playing with the best set of toys the world has ever seen and things are getting better fast.
