Why does Amazon say it shipped 3 days ago, but USPS hasnt picked it up?

Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on January 28, 2007 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Got an email that said it shipped, but all I get on the tracking is the info above. What do they do, process it in the computer and generate a lable, but wait till the have the item in stock?

Or does the USPS take 3 days to update their system?

Thanks.

USPS is notoriously lax in actually tracking anything. Useless, actually.

I didn't think USPS ever updated the system. I've shipped and recieved stuff with "tracking" via the USPS. And i have never seen anything other than the "electronic notification" message.

Hmm...Also am waiting, and waiting...since the 25th. No updates since the initial message.

Only difference is my order came from a BIN on ebay for 5 meeces. I've been wondering if the seller sent the info, but hasn't sent the package?

Useless does seem to be the key word for their tracking system.

You will have your package long before the USPS has it in their "system".

You have mail.
(somewhere)

I've never considered it as any more of anything beyond that the USPS got paid for the postage.

Funny -- and I'm not sticking up for them -- but I just mailed a package parcel post, 3000 miles on Saturday to my brother; he got it Monday and the USPS online confirmation was updated that day as well.

I guess they're just wildly inconsistent.

Well, this package was shipped with the "free" opion. So it may be on the way, but they may be walking with it. But thanks for the Feedback, at least it may actually be shipped.

USPS Only does Tracking for next-day deliveries. Everything else gets Delivery Confirmation. That's all they're obligated to report.

What you're seeing is that the number is 'active'

After you receive it, it'll show that the item was delivered and at what time.

My last couple of orders with Amazon had the same thing. It showed as shipped but wasn't picked up for several days. In both cases, the orders showed up before the shipping info was updated but it really did take about three days before USPS picked up the packages. I'm not sure what the delay is. I used to get all my Amazon orders shipped within a couple of days. Now, the free shipping seems to take 5 to 7 days to get out.

I ordered from Amazon (free shipping) on 1-14 and and received shipping notification and tracking information on 1-18, and the notice said it was being shipped via Airborne Home. The DHL site did show the thing had made it as far as Chehalis, WA (about 50 miles from here) on 1-22. On 1-24 my mailperson delivered it. So... ??? I've given up trying to figure this out. The only deliveries of mine that have been tracked properly and delivered on time were those that were shipped via UPS.

On the other hand, I've had things where the email telling me it shipped and included the tracking number came a day after the thing was delivered...

...Express Mail, whether it's Overnight or 2-day.

Delivery Confirmation does not imply tracking though many want to infer that it does.

The original vendor can chose to use Delivery Confirmation or not. It all depends if they want to pinch some pennies. The OV may track the shipment, but if DC is added, the Postal Service will only have one or two scans, and it/those is/are on the day of delivery.

I 've chosen the 'free shipping option" from Amazon, gotten the order confirmation, then shippping confirmation with a dhl tracking number (which didn't work/ not found)only to see nothing happen until the ninth day when Dhl delivered in one day a package that would take one day to deliver.

Some vendors do put priority out the door on premium shipping options (red, blue, orange go out first before the grounds)but that seemed rediculous.

I have a package from Target right now that was "shipped" on Monday via UPS but shows absolutely nothing on the tracking site except for the fact that UPS was "notified to pick up".

I frequently receive packages a day before I get the notification that it has shipped. This happens to me just as often with UPS as with the USPS.

I think it is a waste of time to track packages. Checking several times a day to try to ascertain where exactly one's package is creates a level of anxiety that need not exist at all. The idea that we should follow a package's trek daily as it travels across country is very new and usually sort of pointless, since we have seen how inaccurate the tracking can be. The real point of the number is to try to find it if it never arrives.
