11foot8 Bridge now has 12ft-4in clearance. Done cheap using shims ($500K).
Now features a shiny yellow crash beam.
They haven't even touched the street surface, yet.

I'd like a better explanation of what the machines were doing.

First we see the ties, then we don't. He cut away from the one close viewing of what the first machine actually did.

Oh, yeaaaaaah. I posted similar in an earlier thread.

There's another bridge after this that supposed to be 12'4" already, and there's been no mention I've seen of its victims.

That being the case, I wonder how long it will take, and if maybe the incident rate will drop drastically or to even zero.

Before raising the bridge, they could have tried painting the can opener bright yellow. This new one looks great. I wonder how long it'll remain untagged. That'll happen sooner than a trailer being opened.

After years of so many reasons why not to raise the bridge, it's significantly improved virtually overnight with a few shims and a pass by a track maintenance rig.

The real reason was probably that the municipality just didn't want to spend the money.

But, do the states have any say? It's owned by a freight line, so it's probably under the oversight of the Federal Railroad Administration and not the state.

The Railroads are a PITA to work with. They don't want to do anything unless it was their idea. We had a horrible crossing in town that they refused to repave for 2 years. You couldn't even drive over it faster than 5mph. I'm impatiently waiting for our permits to clear to directional drill under one of their tracks for a fiber cable run.

The Railroads are a PITA to work with. They don't want to do anything unless it was their idea. We had a horrible crossing in town that they refused to repave for 2 years. You couldn't even drive over it faster than 5mph. I'm impatiently waiting for our permits to clear to directional drill under one of their tracks for a fiber cable run.

We had a valley full of lumpy crossings, where the rail followed a main road with lots of feeders. It took a flood to wash out all those crossings to get them fixed. It's not a mainline though; they almost abandoned it rather than fix it.
