Kaepernick would be a fit on his old team, the 49ers. QB is their only weak link.

Why replace one weak leak with another? Let's not forget his performance went way downhill before he found another way to make headlines.

Making it sound like it was his decision to not play in the NFL is at best misleading.
fact: Blackballed by league owners and GMs. They'd sign and play a Nathan Peterman before a Kapernick.

Only the Pats come close to that ethic. Belichick's world and not Kraft, he's just lucky.
Not the Pats of Al's heyday, those teams were dreadful. They had a broke owner, Billy Sullivan, who bought the franchise for a $10,000 entrance fee. They bounced from Nickerson (BU) field to Fenway to anywhere else they could find. Billy was a fuel oil dealer and would barter heating oil for uniform cleaning, stadium rental and just about anything else he could swing. The team would bus to NY for Titan games and fly coach elsewhere. When the played Dallas (now KC) Lamar Hunt would spring for the local Holiday Inn lodging.
I introduced my yet to be wife to pro football at a snow filled game at BU, she was so impressed she's not gone to another game since. Kraft took a shaky (we might move to Connecticut) team and made it respectable. Pete Carroll learned how to lose NFL games with the Pats. Jim Plunkett and Steve Grogan never won much but were fun to watch. By the time Drew Bledsoe became a winning QB, Kraft had crafted an organization and framework that was ready for a Belichick/Brady duo.
But for a freak accident the football world might still think of Tom Brady as that low round draft pick who never had a chance to amount to anything and Kraft would have been on to other money things like Fan Duel.
