Latest iOS is eating my phone battery

My iPhone 7 was recently updated and now my battery only lasts about 4 hours. Wife’s phone, same model as mine, is doing the same. Anyone else notice this?

I would start with IDing whatever app is draining your battery. Maybe an app needs to be updated. ??

How to see what's using battery life on your iPhone or iPad

try a hard reset. I think you press home and power buttons for about 5 seconds.

Also check your apps under Location Services.

I find some apps I've turn off are on by default after some updates.

Do you frequently see the location arrow in the menu bar? That would be a good indication of a problem.

I just turn of Location Services at the breaker, for a bit and see if that makes a difference.

It did, so I turn it back on and turn off all the individual apps, and turn on the ones need when prompted.

It tuns out I don't need as many on as I though.

I am not sure if you use Facebook, but years ago I read complains that it killed battery life. They may have improved it since. I do not use it so I cannot tell if it east battery these days.

I think I saw that too at first. Somehow the problem went away. I did nothing more than restart my phone a couple of times. It somehow corrected itself before I did further troubleshooting.

FaceBook was keeping their app open even though one thought they shut it off.

I don't remember the details, but apparently the app violated Apple's TOS and FB was called on it. The app was rewritten, and the major battery-suck was eliminated.

It still can be hard on battery life for some reason, though it may be down to configuration and not nefarious shenanigans.

Of course, if z doesn't use FB, then... I got nothin' more.

This happened to me out of the blue after an update 3 or 4 years ago and has followed me on every iPhone ever since. I’ve tried all the ‘tricks’ and even replaced batteries. My conclusion is that something is awry with my iCloud account (do a search for ‘iCloud causing battery drain’). Maybe someday I’ll take time to log out from it for a day to see if my theory is correct. Until then, I just live with it. I do periodically go through Location settings to make sure new apps I’ve installed are turned off. This has given a bit more battery life, but nothing like it should be.

iCloud battery drain would make sense since it’s backing up data.
