What a mess Seattle has become. Right in downtown on Pike between 3rd and 4th.
There was another police involved drug shooting a couple of hours earlier near by. Last night there was another shooting a few blocks away

That area around 3rd and Pine has been a craphole since at least the '70s. They ran out the adult bookstores in the '80s, but nothing Seattle is willing to do can clean up the sketchy people.

1 dead, 7 wounded?
Not to be disrespectful, but that would be a good day in places like Baltimore,
St. Louis, Detroit, or New Orleans. Baltimore is currently having a murder a day.
It would be higher if not for the excellent medical trauma centers they have.

Or Philadelphia, which has gotten worse with the New DA.

I really wish crime statistics would be amended to separate criminal on criminal and criminal on non-criminal. Plus, all self defense acts should be separated as well. My concern for criminal on criminal is minimal.

Even when crime stats are worse in other places, it's still very unsettling to have 3 shootings, two with fatalities and one with mass casualties, in your downtown area within 24 hours. The suspected shooters in the mass event have been identified but are still at large.

No buses were running after last night's shooting so Uber and Lyft to the rescue for stranded commuters? Not so much, their prices went up to over $100 for rides that normally run around 20 bucks.

Lyft and Uber apologized for the surge pricing and offered refunds.

Seattle does have a lot more shootings than I thought, it averages nearly one per day over the last five years.

IIRC, they're tied with Philly. However, Philly is on a tear this year. So far, there are more shooting deaths this year than days into the New Year.

I don't think you recall correctly. Philly had 351 homicides in 2018. Seattle had 31.

The comment above is misleading, a "shooting" a day does not mean a homicide each day.

Seattle has low rates of violent crime and is at a 4 year low for homicides.

You're correct - I misread.
