Apple watch question

I ended up buying my wife that $299 Best Buy version 4 Apple watch for Christmas and she loves it. But today she discovered a flaw (feature?). Turns out her iPhone's battery was depleted so the text to me this evening via watch before heading home never reached me. I would have thought the watch would give some warning that the phone's battery was dying or dead and that calling and texting functions would not work. Is there some setting that needs to be adjusted or is that just the way it is? I told her I'd ask "the forum".

Thanks.

I’ve never seen such a function on mine. Sounds like a suggestion to Tim Apple !

It does warn at 10%. You get the option to keep going as-is, or drop it into power reserve mode. In that mode, you basically have an old school watch that communicates with nothing. More than once I’ve received the notice on my AW3 and dismissed it without paying attention, your wife may have done the same.

The watch warns when it is at 10%, but it does not warn the user when the iPhone that it is linked to is at 20-10% (as far as I know). That would be a useful feature and shouldn't be too hard to code. Suggest it: [www.apple.com]

This is correct.

There are apps that allow one to check the iPhone's battery via the Watch.

Power 2 ($2) is one such app I'm aware of, but the reviews aren't good. It's supposed to both warn of low battery and full charge.

It polls the 'Phone every 30min for it's battery percentage. A lot can happen in that time, but more frequent polling probably reduces battery life.

This feature, and an out-of-range, 'you're leaving your 'Phone behind!' notification, would be great wOS additions. However, I'd like the ability to set the 'low battery' to my preference (50%).

Thanks. I share the info. Yes, a warning on the phone is kind of useless if the phone is on her desk in the office and she's relying on the watch to know when a text or call might be coming in.

An out of range alarm would be awesome. I forget to grab my phone off my desk far to many times.
