Has COVID-19 caused any change in your behavior?
Posted by: RgrF

We're just a bit old to deal with this sort of uncertainty so wife and I gave our Sunday afternoon LA Phil seats to friends, they said the normally full hall was about a third empty.

Daughter and S-I-Law just backed out of an eagerly anticipated cruise with 10 & 14 yr-old grand kids to Hawaii. Took a big hit from the surly cruise line.

Are you changing anything you normally do?

Funny you should mention it. Earlier tonight, as I was in Walgreens (see post one up), a young couple in front of me in line ... the young lady sneezed, she did it the proper way (into her crooked elbow), but nevertheless ... I backed up as best I could. In my head, I said the words: "social distancing". grinning smiley

It's not even about coronavirus specifically; I just don't want to get sick period, and there's all kinds of stuff floating around. So the coronavirus has just made me a lot more aware of everything going on around me. I do have a slight immunodeficiency, and catch stuff relatively easily, so it's not an unreasonable concern on my part.

We are leading a group of students doing study-abroad in Guatemala. We need to depart the country for 72 hours in order to get another 90 day tourist stamp in our passports. We have everything set up for a four day stay in southern Mexico - except we learned today that someone in a city an hour from the one we intended to visit has tested positive. We’ll find out tomorrow from the higher-ups what the plan going forward is. We may hole up in a city near the frontier for the entire 72 hours, eating at a restaurant that caters to locals. Keeping students in their rooms will likely be an impossible task. We spent most of today coordinating with various people. At least we are all healthy.

We are also making backup plans for our immune suppressed daughter (kidney transplant). We have no idea where that will go but all we can do is hope for the best.

nope. We just got back from Maui, not a care.

Its not nothing, but we are all healthy, not really the demographic it affects.

Q: Has COVID-19 caused any change in your behavior?

A: No, I am still absolutely revolted by how many people don't wash their hands when they leave the restroom.

Canceled plans to drive down to Seattle today to catch a community-college production of “The Three-Penny Opera.” Stayed home and started reading “Successful Aging” by Daniel Levitin.

Honestly, the larger factor was the long drive (some of it in rain) rather than the virus.

So far the only cogent response

Being as cautious as always during cold and flu season. With my lifelong asthma and repeated bouts with pneumonia I'm a high risk patient.

I travel a lot. I've got a small pack of clorox wipes in my bag. I'm toying with getting a small spray bottle to put some type of antibacterial liquid in to spray the hotel room tv remote, etc. Not sure what the plan is yet.

It's not just COVID-19 that has me thinking about this, it seems that certain areas of the country are having flu issues. Staying in hotels and traveling on planes significantly increases my risk of exposure. So, taking reasonable steps to minimize risk seems like a smart idea.

Plus, I don't think TSA would take kindly to me to me traveling in a CBRN suit. smiley-laughing001

I now have to tell multiple people per day that we do not have any N95 masks for sale and I do not know when/if we will be getting any in. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I made a nice little sign that said this, but a higher up decided that corporate might not like us putting it up. WTF, so now I have to repeat my little speech over and over. sad smiley

Also, telling me why you need the masks and who they are for will not make more magically appear. grinning smiley

Do you sell the clear face shields? If so, maybe you should suggest that they might help. ROTFL

I believe those are also OOS.
I do suggest the painter’s head covering socks, if they want to go that route. We have a few of those left, for now.
We are even out of the big refillable respirator type masks now, too.

I've emphasized with the kids how important it is to wash hands before preparing food and eating. We bought travel insurance on an upcoming trip in case we have to cancel.

I scrubbed my hands when I got h9me today, because I had touched the transit system while I was out. That is probably a reasonable precaution in general.

Not seeing antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizers doing much good, except to help grow stronger bacteria. Is there such a thing as an anti-viral hand sanitizer?

Yes, I'm pretty sure any sanitizer will nuke viruses, since they are in general quite fragile. Even a little UV light is bad news for a virus.

Make sure it covers this kind of reason for canceling. Apparently not all trip insurance does.

As is being over 60. And hypertension.

I'm in like four of the major risk groups. If I get it I will probably die. Last time I had influenza I wore my CPAP machine most of the time for a week to keep my pulse oxygen level above 85% (I have a meter). I really should have been hospitalized. But who can afford that ????

We are taking a cruise to Mexico in April.
And we will be renting a beach house in Gulf Shores in June.
Screw covid-19 or whatever they’re calling it this week.
