Yeah, Asian cultures can be pretty trippy.

During the time I spent in Korea, I saw some pretty disturbing things that people ate and drank.

Google "Beondegi".

You could buy high test rice liquors in bars etc. that contained various things such as a dead snake in the bottle.

This however, was the worst. You have been warned. devil smiley

I'm OK with pig snouts and anuses in the sausage, but that's pretty much where I draw the line.

OK, the silkworm larvae, I can deal with that. Insects are actually highly nutritious (high protein), and relatively cheap and easy to propagate at high numbers, so there's some argument that we should all be eating more of them. The Insectarium here in NOLA even sells chocolate-coated crickets.

Your spoiler, on the other hand ... that'd be too much for me.

Google "Beondegi".

…or just look it up in wikipedia (no "search" necessary) if you don't want to see ads for delicious canned beondegi for the next three weeks.

One of my close friends, who used to run a cruise ship in Alaska, was in the bar when someone accidentally swallowed the toe. They billed him an extra $200 on his tab. NO idea where they get replacements, and I AM NOT GOING TO ASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A mountain climber who lost some toes to frostbite donated replacements...
And now, they use a glass with a screen over it to serve 'em in... so no possibility of "losing" another one.

And yeah.... Eww.... Don't put me down for one of those. Ever.

"Right, and people think an Alaskan Sour Toe Cocktail is "wrong""

I joined the club in 2010 before screens moved from doors to whisky glass covers.
With screen now in place one of the qualifications for admittance to the Sour Toe Cocktail Club must have been changed

People in Wuhan have a long history of eating just about everything that can be eaten. They have said they won't stop even if it is made illegal. Think about why items like rhinoceros horns are still in demand.

Back when I worked at the refinery, there was an old timer that used to catch squirrels on site and eat them. A chance of plague and tetraethyl lead? No thank you.
