Its made by chicago faucets. It turns the water on and off just fine but it leaks from the top of the stem which seems odd and annoying. I'd like to just replace a couple of o rings but my initial attempt hasn't made any progress. I'm currently soaking the cartridge in vinegar before I try again.

Its about 30+ years old. Just want to get another couple of years out of it before we redo the bathroom. Or at least install a new sink.

but $30 to replace a cartridge seems steep. also, why wouldn't it have the same o ring mine does around the middle?

That stem looks smaller.
The place Kraniac mentioned has a site.

We had a Chicago faucet in out kitchen at our last house. It would have been about that vintage.
We finally replaced it because of a leak and how hard it was to find parts.
I did a lot of “creative” fixes before we finally replaced it, one involving wrapping lots of waxed dental floss around certain pieces.

Sounds familiar. I'm quickly going from 'fixing a leaky faucet is easy!' to 'its not leaking that bad and will be replaced someday'

Chicago Faucets are generally highly repairable unless the metal structures are done..or if it's old as dirt..The guy at the faucet shop, tho, has an excellent handle on the older metal and fiberous washer sizes and what not

I use them all over my building and i love em.

But, like anything else..there is a time to bail and get new.
