My first brush with enforced Covid-19 precautions…

A friend living in the L.A. area has been taking a standup comedy class. The class has an arrangement with Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank to have the students do a set for their final project. Students get their friends to attend, eat and drink, win-win for the class and establishment.

The Mainroom seats 200 ( [en.m.wikipedia.org] ) in fairly close quarters; 7PM And 9PM shows were scheduled to accommodate all the students. My friend was in the first show (she killed) and we were preparing to stay for the second show only to find it had been canceled. The health department had stopped by and told the club that they had to reduce seating by 50% to maintain social distancing. The club decided to cancel the second show to give them time to rearrange the furniture for compliance.

This was going to be my last exposure to the public anyway… Yoga class, support groups, etcetera have been cancelled already.

You folks have similar reports?

All education in the US is going online for the next 2 months, assuming classes are not cancelled.

Our local schools in Pierce County, WA, are shut down to mid-April, at least.
The governor has ordered all places hosting gatherings of more than 250 persons to shut down.
Yikes!

Yeah, college I sometimes adjunct at is going all online, no sports, no music or theatrical productions. Local music venue has cancelled all shows until sometime in April.

Florida schools just shut down for two weeks, but only students. The staff must still report.

Our local "artsy" theater chain mailed they were staying open at 50% capacity and sanitizing between shows. One of the reasons we like the place is they were mostly below 50% anyway.

A huge annual Fine Arts Fair that takes place down the street from us just canceled for this weekend. Artists come from all over the country. They were setting up all week, took everything down today.

There is debate as to whether closing K-12 schools is a good idea or not. At this point, NYC and Minnesota schools are no closed. This may seem counterintuitive, but there’s science behind the rationale for keeping schools open.

closed my kids school for 2 weeks too.

No one has mentioned it as far as I know, but we know a family with 3 kids from the school was on the princess boat that just docked in Oakland.

Their oldest daughter used to be a fairly close our oldest daughter. but no reports from the school about this specific instance.

DC's historic Uptown movie theater, which was likely closing anyway at the end of the month, putatively closed yesterday because of covid-19.....

I saw 2001 A Space Odyssey there when it first came out.
