Easy to add an external drive via TB3 and/or USBC now.

User upgradeable RAM SLOTS. (YEAH !)

I'm wondering if the pics of the 2020's innards have the fan removed or if it's now on the other side of the mobo.

The 2018 mini has an RF shield over the RAM. Apple's site doesn't show one for the 2020.

It also looks like access through the belly is more like the 2012 than the 2018.

The mobo might still have to be removed, but it should be much easier.

I picked the wrong month to get a mini, LOL.

But if Apple 'fixed' the power LED, I'll really be ticked off.

I really like it.

Memory upgrades are way too expensive, however, but that is to be expected.

But I see our sponsor has much more reasonable memory for this machine (so I assume it is user upgradeable).

Mostly a jab that none of the Mac laptops have USB-A (and haven't since the 2016 model was introduced). My point is that USB-A is still an incredibly widely-used standard and won't be going away anytime soon. Apple would serve their customers well by including 1-2 USB-A ports on all of their machines for the foreseeable future. They do it on the desktops from the Mini to the new Mac Pro, so I'm just frustrated that they don't seem to be able to find a way to make it happen on their laptops. I know it's possible to find cheap usb-a to c adapters, dongles and cables, but for a standard that has been used on EVERYTHING for the past 20+ years to just go away on laptops just seems silly. I know we've litigated this to death on MRF and elsewhere. Apple obviously understands USB-A's importance, or else they wouldn't have included them on brand new desktop releases. What would the harm be in adding 1-2 to the laptops?

I disagree.

It's tough to keep people moving forward if someone enables them to live in the past.

In the Chicken vs Egg dynamic, nobody wants to make USB-C devices until there's computers to use them.

Nobody wants to make computers with USB-C/TB ports unless there's devices.

There are more and more USB-C/TB devices being made all the time.

And Apple wants to make 'Books thinner and thinner all the time.

I'll be happy just to have a 'Book with two USB-C/TB ports.

Oh, gotcha. Im with RAM.

If I *never* had to use a USB A plug again it would be too soon. =)

USB C is the shiznit. I hope everything is heading that way. Sooner rather than later.

I want to live in the future, but I don’t have a time machine. So I live in the present.

Today, few connectors are USBC, and many are USBA. Heck, I still use VGA daily.

so what do you do with all those USB-A devices? landfill?

Sure you can use a dongle, but it would be nicer if they could still put 1-2 USB-A on laptops and still put 3-4 USB-C.

Laptops with a single USB-C are lame IMHO.

New eight-generation 6-core and quad-core processors.

I was under the impression that intel was at 9th or 10th generation processors these days. maybe I was wrong.

The difference between 7 through 10th generation processors are very small and scale with core count and GHz speed mostly.

Put another way, one core of a 4.0 GHz 7th Gen processor (like in this i7 NUC here) is the same speed and performance as one core of a 4.0 GHz 10th gen chip. What you get with the newer Gens is *generally* a few more cores and very slightly less heat generated per core, resulting in overall more performance at the expense of more heat.

In heat/power limited settings like the MBAir, the MacBook, and even the MacBook Pros, you do get more performance from the increase in core count but it's not a linear increase where an 8-core CPU is twice that of a 4-core CPU because there is thermal throttling in every one of these machines. All quad core I7 MBPros from 2011 and later thermal throttle. Most of the dual core 13" MBPro models did not throttle as those couldn't clock high enough to generate enough heat until around the 2017 models.

Yes I've spent a ton of time testing this, starting with my 2011 Quad Core Mac Mini.

Like everything, everyone's use is different I guess.

We have a pair of 2012 13" MBPs, have had them both now for at least 3 years. I dont think we have *ever* used any of the ports in years, and have *never* inserted a CD/DVD drive in the whole time we have owned them. (minus the power port, natch)

USB 3, ethernet, card slots -- all useless.
