#1 movie: The Sound of Music. Of course - probably THE biggest movie released in 1965.
#1 song: "I'm Telling You Now" by... Freddy and the Dreamers? WTF?

It is what it is.

Yeesh, considering when I was born I was really hoping for a cooler combination than these two:

#1 Song- "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band

#1 Movie- "The Bible: In the Beginning"

A similar website I visited years ago listed the number one song for my birth date as "These Boots Are made For Walkin' " by Nancy Sinatra, so I'm gonna unofficially stick with that one.

Not as bad as you might think. Freddie and the Dreamers were a wildly entertaining live act, but that didn't quite come across on their records or in their "Sanitized For Your Protection" appearances on American TV.

Here's a blurry copy of footage of them from the 1964 NME Concert in England, but you'll get the idea-

There used to be MUCH clearer copies of this and other years/acts featured at the annual NME Concerts including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, the Animals, The Kinks, etc. on YouTube, all from just before or just as they hit it big, but they've apparently been taken down now.

Edited to add: Grrrr! Apparently YouTube has gotten as bad as Google, Bing, et al in giving you every search result EXCEPT the one you want. Here's a video of the entire 1964 NME Concert (two hours) that is clearer than the above link (limited by original source media, I expect... only one step above KineScope by the look of it) featuring this lineup:

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Hollies
Gerry and The Pacemakers
Roy Orbison
Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas
Joe Brown
The Searchers
The Merseybeats
Cliff Richard & The Shadows
Manfred Mann
The Dave Clark Five
Freddie & The Dreamers
Brian Poole & The Tremeloes
The Swinging Blue Jeans

NME Poll Winners Show 1964- [www.youtube.com]

Selections from other years are available as well. I just typed in "NME 1965".
