I work at HD as some of you know.
I have taken off for the last two weeks. I am scheduled to back on 4/20.
I am 63, my husband is 72 and has several health issues.
HD says any associate can stay out as long as they feel is necessary and your job will still be there when you want to come back.
Assuming that not getting a paycheck is not an issue, when should I plan to go back.
I live in the metro Atlanta area.

For some perspective, this is a potential life-or-death decision, especially for your husband. To paraphrase a wise old sage on such a matter, "Do ya feel lucky punk(ette)? Well do ya?"

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I agree that it is important for me to stay home, I just don't know what objective criteria to use to determine when to go back.

I don't want to keep telling HD that I will come back, then extending at the last minute, but I don't know what else to do, as no one really knows when it will be "safe" for people to go back to a somewhat "normal" life.

I am leaning towards, when the work from home people go back, but I am open to any suggestions.

That was my vote, although the caveat is that they might be sent back prematurely in some states by know-nothing governors and industry leaders who are more worried about the stock market and profits than employees. You are also a special case due to age and health issues, so I would say that is the earliest you should consider going back. Consult with public health advice first though.

When its safe.

Unfortunately we don't know when that will be or what it will look like.

You're doing the right thing even though it feels wrong.

Until the peak has dropped for two consecutive weeks in Atlanta, you should not even think about going back.

And before you do, you need to be sure there is hospital capacity in your area just in case you or your husband WERE to be infected.

Thanks for the objective criteria suggestions.
I do appreciate it.

Until you either have immunity or a very effective treatment has been developed, you shouldn't go back to work. Or to the movies. Or to restaurants.

The only variable here is I do need to keep my job because that is where I get my heath insurance, so I can’t just stay out forever. If I am going to be out for over a month, I might need to ask for a formal LOA, but they may extend that time frame, depending on how this thing progresses.
They have been pretty good about trying to accommodate employee’s needs, so hopefully everything will work out.
I am sure this is an HR nightmare for them, too.

Perhaps check this site to get an idea of when new Covid19 cases are on the decline in your area.

Then add another 2 weeks or so?

Thanks to the idiot governor, Georgia is about 2 months behind the curve.

If the peak is late April for most of the country, that puts you into late June to evaluate whether to lift the stay at home order.

Remember that as soon as the order is lifted, we go into round 2 of the coronavirus epidemic in this country -- another round of deaths, followed by another stay at home order.

So, you might be best off thinking about what you'll be doing in September.

Wait until this point, then consult your doctor(s), HR, and anyone else you need to to come to an informed decision. Why go back if it puts your family at risk?

Stay home. Work from home as you're able.

I find it funny how many people answering "Stay home" obviously didn't bother to read the question.
Unless they're telling Rhonda to stay locked in her home for the rest of her life.

Right NOW, I'm saying May 4 is the closest answer listed... but probably more likely more like the middle of May.
Have to see how things shape up between now and then.

Whats the point of picking an exact date when we have no idea when it will be safe?

That’s why the Who Knows option.
I appreciate all the responses.
Lowe’s just had a big sale flyer in the paper today. That made me angry. It is so irresponsible to encourage people to get out and shop, and I don’t think for a second they were assuming people would mostly be ordering online.
At least HD has suspended all the Spring Sales to help keep down the number of shoppers.

OFTEN people read the title and then come up with a response before they even read the thread.

Which is why I wish the poll was after the thread err, topic, sorry. Some people just post a poll, some a poll with thread.
