Anyone have a web cam they want to sell? Is there a way to make an iSight work?

Sorry, I realize there's a FS section, but I would like a few more eyeballs on this.

Do any of you have a webcam you would be interested in selling? I know you're probably thinking I should just go buy one, but the prices are crazy right now. Eg, the Logitech c920 MSRP is $80. But on Amazon I've seen prices well over $300. With so many people trying to work and do school from home, webcams are sold out all over the place. I actually bought one off Amazon (third party), but it is now past its arrival date and not here.

I have a job interview lined up, but I need a web cam for it.

I do have an old iSight. Would a FW800 to 400 adapter work with that? Maybe it'll be easier to find such an adapter than a camera. It's only 640 x 480 though, and I'd prefer a bit better quality for interviews.

take the interview on an iPhone/iPad in case you don't find a better solution.

also, is there an App that would allow to connect a smart phone and use it as a web cam with a computer?

I do not have an iSight camera to try, but yeah, if you can find a cable in the back of the drawer, try it!

I'll have to play with that. I want to be in a good setup, might need to share my screen.

You can get a Wyze cam and flash the firmware to make it into a webcam. I'm not sure what Amazon's lead times are. I've been getting everything in 3-4 days, even though it says April 20.

if you dare to venture out of the house, you may find this at Home Depot

Check the HD app first and see if it is in stock.
If it is order online for pick up and it should be in a locker at the front of the store, or ask for curbside delivery.
Less contact for everyone, if you make sure it is there first.

I'm rocking a Pyro WebCam, vintage 2001. Quite sure I bought it via DealMac for much less than the $100 street price mentioned in a March 2001 review.
[eshop.macsales.com]

I nearly threw it out two months ago. Can't remember why I hesitated. I bought it to videochat with my parents soon after the birth of our daughter, who is now a college sophomore. Used it, at most, twice. It has a FireWire interface, which is quite rare for a videocam but that to my surprise was plug-n-play with my love/hate Hackintosh on 10.14.6.

The manual, which I found online, helpfully reminds the user that "A modem is required for the application of videoconference and videomail software."

The second one wouldn't work at all. The first, maybe? Probably not. I'll need the camera to be recognized as an input device on my Mac so video conferencing software will see it.

I have a space Logitech C920 I'm not using. No idea what a reasonable price would be.

The second one wouldn't work at all. The first, maybe? Probably not. I'll need the camera to be recognized as an input device on my Mac so video conferencing software will see it.

Yesterday night, I got the idea of setting up an old iPhone 5s to use as a webcam with my recently purchases mac mini. Your point above was one thing I found to pay attention to. I also happened to have an iphone tripod mount and a small tripod, and will be setting that up today to sit behind my monitor, level with the top, as an attachable web cam would.

I downloaded EpocCam Free onto the iphone, and EpocCam Viewer on the mini. Tried wireless and it worked, but ultimately switched to usb-lighning to test latency issues and get power. The last thing I did was to check that it worked with webex, and it did. I haven't tried zoom or others yet. There are "commercials" to links that will pop up on the free app, and there is no audio. I will get the $8 pro version to get rid of the pop ups and to add microphone access.

Be aware that with Mojave+, 3rd party usb cams don't work with Apple native apps like facetime and photobooth, or so the dev said. In practice it was true that those apps did not display the video, but the viewer app and webex did.. Also you could not be running the viewer and the teleconference app at the same time, or there would only be video in the viewer.

Another note is that NDI HX Camera and NDI tools are offered free since this week. It looked really cool, but the mac controller app sucked, lesser than the PC version and I couldn't discern a method to switch the camera to different outputs (apps) on Mac as you could on PC. If I was using a PC, I'm sure I would be testing that. I might actually fire up VMware fusion to test it out.

I'll chime back in as I discover things, but if I were you, I'd probably take Grimmie up on his generous offer.

Best of luck friend. Economy sucks, but you've got skills.

I just tested a 400 to 800 adapter with an iSight. Then added an 800 to thunderbolt adapter to test with my computer.

Definitely works. It was low light and I need to figure out how to mount to my screen.
