I'm officially Covid negative

As of today at least.

My doctor ordered a test because I'm having some additional problems in my recovery from surgery and he wanted to rule out Covid.

Not sure if this is good news or not?? You don't have covid, but you have unexplainable problems... hope all goes well.

Me2. Same deal.

Did they do the one where they stick the rod down your nose and grind? I swear, I tasted blood for a half hour.

Wrong side?

Probably on the right side because this is more personal rather than a general discussion. And I am glad you are negative!

What is the rate of false negatives?

It varies, but anywhere from 20 to 30% (so sensitivity of 70 to 80%)

So, unfortunately, a negative test doesn't exclude COVID-19. If you have the signs/symptoms typical of COVID-19 but test negative, most healthcare workers are assuming it's a false negative and that the patient does, in fact, have the disease.

Just search "covid sensitivity" or "covid false negative" and you'll get a lot more information about this than I can provide.

It also depends on which test was used. I guess the surgery wounds are healing too?

Hoping that is an accurate test and great news for you. And I hope you fully recover well from your surgery.

Yeah, same test but the guy wasn't quite as brutal. He said it would be unpleasant which it was, but not really a problem.

As far as false negatives, I didn't have the "right" symptoms anyway so I would be surprised if it was a false negative.

My recovery was going great...
[TMI warning]
until Monday morning when I got severe diarrhea which I still have. The doc ordered a C. Diff test but we don't have the results back yet. I'm burning through my precious supply of TP like you wouldn't believe.

Yep. IV antibiotics for 4+ days in the hospital and then 7 days of oral antibiotics afterwards.
