we are sheltering in place four hours from our home.

my wife and i have been "working" via iphone 6s/6s+ and a pair of ipads.

my wife has a real job.

i make media.

her job is very important.

my job is nice.

(don't sneer, we make it work. june will be our 35th wedding anniversary!)

so when we realized we will probably not be back in nyc till june, we went to the apple site and bought a macbook air 2020 i5/8/512.

and it arrived yesterday!

setup was a breeze.

i am still learning trackpad swipes but i find the keyboard responsive and for the web, email and wp, the 2020 is quite snappy.

next week i am hoping to cut a short video in imovie (i don't want to install final cut pro just yet)

i also want to install luminar 4 which i bought but had not installed on the home imac 2015 i7/32gb/3tb.

i have been using luminar for the past 3 years and so far has worked for me and my clients.

so i have been the one setting up the mba 2020.

starting tomorrow, i am hoping my wife will start spending some time on the newly arrived laptop. i know she has a boatload of work and i'm hoping this will help her.

i am also hopeful that the two of us can co-exist on one machine as we spend the day sharing and then swapping chrome/google profiles.

My brain (which is younger than yours) cannot learn all the trackpad swipes, probably due to lazy, insolent fingers not listening to the brain. Kudos to you for whipping your troops into shape.

Good luck with the new Mac. You'll get used to the trackpad, if you don't just add a mouse. My brain is probably older than yours and LZ's together and I figured it out pretty fast. But, word of advice, if you want to see your 36th anniversary, get a second Mac. We learned that 30 years ago when we bought our first, then a week later had to buy a second.

....i have to agree...especially since you said your wife is using for work......probably best to leave as her 'dedicated' work machine, so you never have the chance to 'accidentally' move or delete something that might be important to her work.....

....that is if you can buy another one.....

And in fact I've learned that Mrs. Zealand always needs to own the better Mac. It just makes everything easier.

If you are looking for a monitor make sure you get one that supports USB-C Charging. It essentially makes the monitor a docking station.

I'm considering the 2020 MBA, but will wait until the end of the year to see if there really will be a 2020 MBP with the new keyboard and a 14" screen in a 13" box.

If not, then it's an MBA for me.

I love using gestures, but precise cursor control needs a mouse or trackball, as I do tire of the trackpad.

Unfortunately, there are no really good trackballs any more, and mice are — well, just mice.

You should try out setting up separate user accounts for each of you and use Fast User Switching to switch between her world and yours without logging out or quitting apps. And to do it right you should have 3 accounts. The administrator with admin rights and not generally logged in, and two non-privileged accounts, one for each of you.
