My new iMac!

In what may be the best iMac deal ever, I scored a 20" core Duo 2.0, 512, 250gig for $749 + $20 shipping (no tax!) as an edu deal from the Kansas State Univ computer store. I'm in CT but I sent proof of my faculty appt and they Fedexed me my new iMac. (Don't bother calling, I got the last one.)
My last desktop Mac was my PM 7600 so this is a real change. My son took the Powerbook to college so I've subsisted on my old iBook G4 800 till now. I am amazed how fast it is even with a paltry 512 of ram.
Anyway my wife needed a Windows computer to access proprietary software at her work from home. So I used boot camp to put windows XP on the iMac (yes I felt "dirty" seeing windows start up in place of OS X). However I must say Apple did a great job on the drivers for XP: everything works (wireless internet, Mac keyboard, screen resolution etc.) Actually its probably the best looking windows box ever! So now I have 2 computers for the price of one.

Leadah! And consider Parallels if she is only using the Windows occasionally-- why have to boot the system when you can run OS X all of the time!

You still get a full L E A D E R ! even though it has Windows---afterall it is real full make with add on.

More fun with Parallels--you can add an external monitor and have MacOS on the main monitor, and Windows on the second

I didn't go for Parallels because boot camp is free and I had an XP intall disc from my son's computer handy. Also I thought 512 of ram is too little for Parallels.

20" LEADER!

Aloha, Ken

The interesting thing was that during the install it asks for the XP product key. Well I have the disk but there is no product key on it! However this utility [www.magicaljellybean.com] retrieved the install key from my son's Compaq and I was set. Billy Gates even let me "activate" the install so all is well.

I foundout about the deal from some scuttlebut on fatwallet. Actually I called about getting a $699 deal on the original Macbook but they were all sold out but they told me they still had the 20" iMac.
