I predict Ford will file for Bankruptcy protection by the end of the year.

No one hopes any company will fail. Unfortunately quite a few of the big auto makers will inevitably go bankrupt. This is the logical consequence of their own greed and ineptitude

The same thing happened to BlackBerry, Nokia and Motorola (OK maybe not bankrupt but Lassley diminished). The same would have happened to the legacy American, European, and Russian space ‘agencies’ had it not been for government ‘subsidies’ propping them up.

All of them knew profitable electrics could be possible, well before Tesla came on the scene. They just sat on their asses and stifled innovation to maintain the status quo for their current short-term profits. Even when tesla finally appeared, due to conventional wisdom which was based on FUD, they believed Tesla would fail. As a result, they ceded too much technological ground to Tesla, Ground that can only be made up by spending the adequate years in research and development of their own battery technology (there is no shortcut around this). Unless Tesla shares their technology with the rest of the field, the rest are mostly doomed.

Oh please. Tesla sells about 2% of all vehicles sold in the USA. GM and Ford may have problems but Tesla stealing all their sales isn’t one of them.

Steve Jobs was a jerk too. And the major automobile companies going bankrupt is not something we’re talking about this year or even the next few, we are talking about long-term eventualities here, was that not obvious?

And by the way, Tesla only has half of 1% of the car market.

And by the way,Tesla itself claims they sold 370,000 cars in 2019. With total sales of 17,000,000 in the US, that’s about 2%. If you have different numbers to share, please do so.

Interesting, you’re painting a better picture of the situation than I would’ve. That half percent sounded pretty depressing to me. I’ll have to go check it out.I wonder if I’m thinking about worldwide Automotive sales?

Musk needs to have someone steal his iPhone and delete Twitter until we have a vaccine. It's hurting TESLA, and that is not a political statement.

they probably last longer than an ICE, but they do need new battery and there is wear and tear.

Agree, they will last longer, but accidents will happen, and there seems to be a new model out every few years now.

Sorry space, I completely missed that important point in his post. I think what happened was that I often hear how the major auto makers may have some bankruptcies, and I think I just interpreted the post as a general long-term prediction.

2020 was supposed to be Tesla’s year. Showing a decent but milder profit represents a huge loss for them.

They shut him off during the earnings call. Claims of fascism, citizen imprisonment and other dire warnings to the American Way of Life.

I’d recommend to anyone living in CA check to see if the sky is falling, or if perhaps “something else” may be in the air. Literally.

They did better than Ford or GM. Ford’s executive team salary was more than the company’s profits.

2020 was still a growth year for TSLA, not a year for profits. Too many new factories going online.

Yup... I'm not expecting much of a profit for at least 3 more years. I'd rather they be at "break even", and continue with Gigafactory Berlin, and expanding (already!) Gigafactory Shanghai, and expand Gigafactory Reno.

Just finish Reno. They've only built about 1/3 of it.

I used to be a Ford guy. Then I asked myself why. I haven't bought a Ford or other American car company for years. Executive pay is killing the US Auto Industry (and probably most others).
