Finally finished a song I started back in the late 80s, written for a short-lived band, The Deacons, that included my buddy Mike on drums and my brother Frank on bass. Originally recorded to 1" 30 IPS tape as a simple song sketch, it sat for 10 years before being dumped to ADAT. It was later dumped to Pro Tools through an 001 in 2002 where it sat till I finally finished it up over the last few weeks.

I put this little video together as an homage to all my old friends in my music days and the crazy times I shared with them over those years.

Thanks space! I was a bit disappointed by the "size" of the tracks, sound wise, but my 1" Tascam 16 track machine was bought primarily for jingles and song demos so tracks cut on it were always small sounding compared to a 2" machine. Dumping it to ADAT only got me 48K 24bit so again, they were clean tracks but not like cutting at 88K 24bit or higher or on 2" tape.

I'm still happy with what I was able to get from it, all things considered.

Thanks everyone! Very grateful for the kind feedback and your approval. Hal, I re-recorded the bass as I have a 5 string Lakland now which get me down to a low B. It was pretty difficult for my old hands to play it on such a huge neck and it took quite a few passes for me to get through the whole song. Glad I am finally done with that one!

Thanks a bunch! I agree 100%. I have a really nice Pro Tools singer/ songwriter setup and while I can do things now that are pretty slick, the whole experience and feel is totally different than what it was like to sit at a big analog desk and work on 2” tape. I’ve been building a digital system that approximates the 2” tape environment with the type of plugins I use and the methods in which I work and I’m getting closer and closer as I now have time to study this digital signal flow and gain staging.
