Sorry forgot what they are called but you just lay your phone on top and no wires. Seems like there is an OS or model reqirement.

I just got the 2020 iPhone SE and found the AT&T wireless fast charger on eBay for $9 to play around and see how it works.

The main thing is you have to position it just right to be sure it is charging. It has to be Qi-Certified. Haven't watched the whole video but this may give some insight....
Top Wireless Chargers video

Weird thing is Monoprice had a special on wireless Chargers - 2 for $13 - ordered on May 7 and still waiting on them to arrive - UPS handed off to USPS and it stalled locally since May 13

iPhone 8 or later, IIRC, although you can get a 3rd party add-on for earlier phones.

I've heard folks say if you want to go the wireless charging route, the slanted stands are better because the phone naturally positions itself properly. The flat ones (I'm told) can be finicky about exact placement.

Like this:

Here's Wirecutters' recommendations.

It's called a Wireless charger. Or 'inductive charger'.

Apple uses the "Qi" Standard for their iPhone product line starting with the iPhone 8. The entire "X" iphone line and the new SE models can be charged with wireless. You can purchase a wireless charging case or adapter that lets you wireless charge older devices, but it blocks the lightning port and can be annoying if you want to use it.

I like the process because you don't wear out the lightning connector. And if you don't use the connector, you can even stuff a rubber plug in there to keep pocket lint out of it.

Sam,

As others said. You need a wireless charger that meets the Qi wireless standard. However, I prefer the vertical stands. Drop the phone on the charging stand. Done. No positioning necessary. The top charger as recommended by wirecutter is unavailable these days. I own three of these:

The stand charges the phone quickly and the fan ensures the charger stays nice and cool when you're charging something with it. Rock solid reliable, too. I like that Anker includes the necessary AC adapter and cable with the stand, something many wireless pads and stands ship without.

I bought the first one for use with my wife's iPhone 8. It's in our master bedroom. I prefer to charge my phone in the kitchen. So, when I got an iPhone 11 Pro, I got another one for the kitchen for the kitchen, one for my office and another one for my dad for use with his iPhone 11.

Note, Anker has a newer version of the aforementioned stand:

I don't have this version, so I can't speak for how well it works. If it's anything like the older model, it'll be a very good charging stand.

I'm happy with the previous version and would ignore Wirecutters complaints about both models. I've yet to have any issues whatsoever with the so-called slickness of the stand, the speed of the charging or the fact that it has its own proprietary AC adapter. What matters is the Anker charging stand just works.

About wireless charging for the SE 2020...

Does anybody know where the inductor for the SE is located?

I have a case with a metal disc for a magnetic car mount that I really like.

Throw it up, it sticks. Time to go, pull it off, easy peasy.

But a metal plate can interfere with charging or prohibit it completely.

I can either find a smaller plate for the 'Phone case or cut mine to fit.

The plate is a little large for a similar reason wireless chargers often have more than one charging coil - less fiddling for proper positioning.

So, does anybody know where the inductor for the SE is located?

I'm off to look for some kind of x-ray/teardown view.

It looks like the inductor is dead center.

I'm guessing there's some variance in positioning that will still allow charging, albeit at a lower rate.

So if I get a smaller plate or trim mine and glue it to case above or below center, it should charge.

I hope.

I wasn't a big fan of wireless charging, but since the SE can use it, I might give it a try.

Fauch,

You don't have to spend that much if you want a cheap model. 'course, the cheapest ones don't include necessities like an AC adapter or nice to have features like a cooling fan.
