Just saw this. Looks awful. At least it's Pier 45, not 39.

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien and the U.S.S. Pampanito are moored at Pier 45.
Saw a news report that the O'Brien was OK, but no mention, either way, of the Pampanito.
Some Irreplaceable pieces of WWII history.... I hope they are both OK.

The Pampanito is fine. It's located ahead of the O'Brien.

The Google Map shows the Pampanito closer to shore than the O'Brien, but I haven't been down there in close to 20 years.

Gawd. That's true. I haven't been to Pier 39 since about 1990. Looks like Disneyland.

You don't see the Sea Lions unless you go out to the end of Pier 39 and there is nothing cooler than that that you'll see in San Francisco.

We visited Fisherman's Wharf last summer. The only thing I remember from Pier 39 was the sea lions. Everything else was just, what, shops or restaurants I guess? Totally left no impression.

Loved the Sea Lions at P39. We went there several times last year when we were in SF.

It’s a tourist attraction — what do you expect?

I had the opportunity to lunch at Fog Harbor Fish House on Pier 39 some months ago — I was pleasantly surprised by how good my meal was. Looking forward to returning if the opportunity presents itself.

I also very much recommend Scoma's. It's in its own spot, not far from where the pier warehouse burned up. There is so much history at Fisherman's Wharf, plus it's a working wharf. There is a way to enjoy it.

The Ferry Peir got a huge makeover a 10? years ago... super touristy with prices to match, but some good places to eat, great views.

used to be the only way across the bay -- 10 bays, 50000 peeps a day, and beauttiful inside.

Ferry moorings are long gone...

Yep, and in between that the Embarcadero Freeway spoiled the entire view until it was removed.

My old comparison photo:

Yeah, the freeway was awful. They should have just put the whole thing underground.

Although in an earthquake, not sure which would be worse...
