I am in the process of a significant renovation to my condo. Walls will be opened/moved. There is closet that currently has a 110 block that terminates cat5 cables from every room. I have gigabit Fios that uses the cat5 in two locations and also OrbI mesh routers for MacBooks, iPads etc.

What do you recommend for a future proof upgrade? Cat6? Cat6A? Other?

Cat 6A offers the greatest level of future-proofing; Cat 6 is the second best choice. If none of the cable runs exceed 55 meters (180 feet), Cat 6 cable will support 10 Gbps throughput with less susceptibility to alien crosstalk than Cat 6A. Assuming that your current Cat 5 cable runs in conduit, check to make sure the conduit is large enough to support the much larger Cat 6A.

I would do cat 6a if you are tearing walls out and doing major renovations. Think about the best place for your router and where you want it as well as placement for wireless APs and make sure you get them in optimal locations.

For what purpose? As in whats the goal?

How many ports are used in the rooms... and what are they used for? Is the goal to transfer TBs of data between rooms? or?

You seem to be covered with orbi mesh...

I mostly just use the system for internet access for 2 ports. Swapping large files( video) among 3 or 4 locations is a future possibility.

Wouldnt the orbi mesh handle all that with ease?
