Samsung Slim Fit HDTV 30" anyone have one???

I found this on our local craigslist:
[indianapolis.craigslist.org]

It's actually this size I've been looking for; I don't know if I believe the story about Hooters! Does anyone have any personal knowledge about these tvs? I've read some good and bad reviews of them.

I have that exact one. We've had it for quite a while, and it has been a good T.V. , generally. The picture is not the best, clarity wise, compared to Sony. It also has some serious geometry problems due to the slim-ness (it bends straight things at the bottom into an upside down "V"). It usually is not very noticeable, but at times really is. Even so, it doesn't bother us too much. It also fades a little in the corners.

At this point if I was buying a HDTV, I would get an LCD instead. That said, even good LCDs seem to have the "jerkys", which a CRT does not have. I read that increasing refresh rates are supposed to fix this with LCDs.

The sound from the T.V. is good for what it is, compared to other T.V.s we have seen, but this may not make any difference if you are going to hook up external sound. If you have other questions, just ask. kj.

I've got one too. We like it except some mornings when it warms up we hear a high pitched whine. Otherwise the picture and sound are pretty good.

Ours doesn't whine, but 550 is too much, imho. I'm not sure what it is worth, but 100.00 off new isn't cheap enough. To me 450 would be cheaper than any lcd of that size (I think), which seems a decent deal. Maybe a real tv aficionado will tune in with a more qualified opinion? kj.

I have the previous model and I agree with kj. The geometry problems are noticable, especially for the crawling scores and news tickers across the bottom of the screen. Some tickers are cut of and others bend in the middle. Additionally, the TV has color issues. There are blotchy spots in each of the corners. The lower left corner is the worst--it is bright purple. Samsung is replacing it for us under warranty and we are upgrading at additional cost to an LCD version.

I do not recommend the slimfit TVs based on my own experience. Maybe at $400 or less I would consider it but definitely not at $550.

I had one, lasted about 2 weeks, the geometry was beyond awful, very noticeable bowing and hot spots started appearing in the corners. Think I paid $700 for mine, returned it and upgraded to the Sony XBR970. You pretty much get what you pay for, and no amount of discount can make up for the geometry problems let alone the hot spots.
