I have unleashed my ultimate video resource! Monty Python

Yes, long ago I bought the entire 16 disc set of all of the Monty Python Flying Circus TV shows on sale.

I have now decided to release the Kraken and am viewing it from beginning to end.
I have just finished watching the early on Scotsman/Blancmange episode. This is special for me because I saw it while in London in 1969 and then tried fruitlessly to explain Monty Python to my American friends before it premiered on PBS years later. "You see, a Scotsman is playing tennis at Wimbledon with a great big French dessert for control of the Planet Earth... and then there's this couple from the beginning of the episode who turn out to be from the same planet as the big tennis-playing dessert..."

Sure thing man, this is really good hash!

No, you DON"T UNDERSTAND!

Mr. Praline: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!

One scene takes place at a train platform somewhere between Leeds and Bradford - my old stomping grounds.

... and then there's this couple from the beginning of the episode

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brainsample, a perfectly ordinary couple leading a perfectly ordinary life. So let's forget about them and instead . . .

Angus Podgorney.

The chief of the PBS station here in L.A. didn't like MP, so we didn't get it for a while. He finally relented, and we watched MP each week, followed by the International Animation Festival hosted by somebody named Jean Marsh. Got to see a lot of animations from Zagreb for some reason.

Got to meet Eric one time, but never John.

Bring me a bucket!

There is no cannibalism in the British Navy.

And I won't even repeat that line about the Spanish Inquisition, I hear it so often.

I also remember well the skit (they called them sketches) The Death of Mary Queen of Scots

“ There is no cannibalism in the British Navy.”

“ Still no sign of land. How long is it?”

“ That's a rather personal question”

One of my favorite Monty Python lines. Years ago, in a college town, I was waiting in line while a guy flirted with the girl behind the counter. Finally the guy said “So are you going to come tonight?”, and I jumped right in with “ That's a rather personal question!”. Neither of them got it.

Some other favorites are:

“ There, I've run rings around you logically.”

(Penguin on the telly was one of my favorite skits to recite as Grizzly bear warning while solo hiking in the Denali backcountry)

“ Oh, mother, don't be so sentimental. Things explode every day.”

And of course, “ I've told you once “.
