Whiip,

You need to provide more information. Does your home's garage door already have a garage door opener or are you installing one for the first time? If it already has an opener, give a looksie at the the Gogogate 2. My office has a Gogogate 2 and it's been fantastic.

We've had it for nearly three years and are using it with a garage door and opener that is more than 35 years old. Rock solid performance and highly recommended. Can't speak for using it with Alexa or HomeKit though it's apparently compatible with both of them.

'course, you might contact the manufacturer of your current garage door and see if it it can upgraded with a "Smart" system, in the manner that we upgraded the opener at my offie with the Gogogate 2.

All bets are off if your home doesn't have an opener at all and you're looking to have one installed. Can't help you with that since I've never ahd to delve into it.

Not HomeKit/Alexa or any of that stuff, but we installed a "regular" door opener from Home Depot a few years ago for my dad. One of the big names, probably Chamberlain or Genie.

Anyway, it's WiFi. He never uses that feature, but he can open or close the door from anywhere in the world and also take note of its status. It's just not integrated into one of the smart home systems; there's no camera or whatever.

The house we just bought and we are currently moving in has all 3 garage opened WiFi connected, I didn't have time to see what the App is called and if it is home kit compatible, Ask me again in about 2-3 weeks once we settle in.

I have two of the Best Buy Insignia homekit opener add-ons to control my Sears garage door openers. I would not say that I love them. They work most of the time. My problems may be my wireless network.

I bought a couple of Sears openers for way off when our Sear closed several years ago. They connected to wifi and I liked them a lot. Then we upgraded our router and I never could get them to connect again on either wifi signals. When Amazon put the Chamberlain MyQ on a lightning deal I bought it and it works fine. There's a comment from somebody who says s/he installs smart homes for a living and says it's crap. I dunno--it hooked up exactly like it was supposed to and works fine for me. I started with 1 unit and then when they went to $19 on a lightning deal last fall I bought a second one so both doors are hooked up. One door did lose the signal once after a lightning strike and I had to reset it but it's working fine. I'm happy with them.

Concerning HomeKit, in response to a question Chamberlain said:
Q: HomeKit compatible?
A: In order to connect your MyQ-enabled devices to HomeKit, you will need the MyQ Home Bridge, available on the Chamberlain website.
By Chamberlain on December 6, 2017

One other thing to be aware of is this statement in the description: "Smart Collaboration Linking your myQ account to Google Assistant and IFTTT is free for a limited time. No credit card required." I have not paid a fee but I've not hooked it up to Google--I just use the smartphone app to see if the door is open or not and to open it remotely if I ever need to.

I paid $19 each for them at 2 different times during 2019: [www.amazon.com]

Here are some links to HomeKit/garage door integration for some background:

Thanks for the info, guys.

This would be my first HomeKit appliance. Existing Chamberlain opener. I have the manual up/down switch on the wall.

In retrospect, I guess it doesn't really need to be HomeKit based. I just want to use my iPhone as the opener!

Thanks again!

EDIT: Special thanks to RAMmie for the links!!

If you just want to open the door without having to buy a new opener, then the myq hub would work. its what I have. Been flawless.

Sadly, there doesnt seem to be "one app that controls them all".

the myq is on one, I have plugs on another app. Even tho the plug app looks like it could control more things... I havent found out how to find those things...

I use a MyQ by chamberlain also. Works well. There was a discussion on it a while back.

My FIL has a chamberlain with MyQ built in. He doesn’t have it hooked to Wi-Fi though.

If you have the Chamberlain MyQ, I would suggest setting up HomeBridge on a $27 Raspberry Pi Zero kit so you can control it with your iPhone, Siri on the Watch etc. It works great.

They've released a pre-built homebridge image on top of Raspberry OS, so you can set it up completely headless in about 20 minutes with no Linux experience necessary.

reddit post describing the Homebridge image: reddit

MyQ Homebridge plugin Plug-in installed in a few clicks from the Homebridge Web UI. Needs your MyQ login & PWD

Bezos ville RPi0 kit - Yes the Pi0 costs like $10 alone, but add up all the extras & shipping and kit is well priced.

...but but you don't want to launch a separate app for each brand.... HomeKit!
