Garmin type biking app?

I recently (finally!) received my e-bike. A trike, actually. I'll use it mostly to cruise our town, but I'd like to explore a bit too. Without buying another gadget--I already have an iPhone and an Apple Watch--I'd like to see the roads and so forth on my iPhone as I ride. Is there an app for that? Specifically for biking?

I was using Routie for walks, but I’m sure it works with bikes. It works off GPS.

there are lots of choices, but this isn't something I actually do on my bike. I still have a garmin GPS for my bike (although i can't really see the map screen anymore). Are you using this for routing or for stats or for both? For routing, when I do bike tours, I like "ride with GPS"; I use that more on my computer to plan my route, but it has an iPhone app and I am pretty sure it will route you. The major alternative is "map my ride" but I like the mapping function better on ride with gps. Strava may be the leading bike/run stats app. If you are not tracking stats and not following a route, than any/every iPhone mapping app will show your position on a street map, so Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze.

I do use my watch for this though. the app to get on your watch is "WorkOutdoors". I love this app, it has maps on your watch, that work pretty well, + tons of configurable screens for stats. So workoutdoors has taken over all of my iphone/watch needs in terms of mapping and workouts and stats.

There's RidewithGPS, Mapmyride, and Strava. They all have free versions. Try them all out and decide which one works for you. I'm pretty sure that you can run them all at the same time.

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

The Strava app shares your ride data publicly.

It caused this poor guy a whole bunch of grief.

That's a good question.

I'm unfamiliar with all the apps mentioned.

There are GPS navigation apps like Google Maps (free, if you do the Goog) and paid nav apps.

But I've only seen apps that require a starting point and destination.

A friend's Lexus has a SatNav that can always displays a wide area around the vehicle without having to input a destination.

Apple Maps doesn't do this, as far as I can tell.

I'd like an app that does the same as the Lexus (and many other cars' SatNavs, I'm sure).

Fitmeter looks okay, but I think Routie will do the trick. RidewithGPS, Mapmyride, and Strava all require me to login with Facebook or Apple or something before I can even look at them.

Ditto the votes for RideWithGPS. It's my go-to for creating maps.
