There will be lots of scenes shot in conference rooms.

Most of them in fact.

Looks interesting.
Hopefully its made my people who DO NOT HATE the source material and want to destroy it.

So much good sci fi is ripe for multi-season TV shows. I'd love to see a Ringworld epic.

Has anyone ever tried a movie / tv version of this? I've always assumed that it can't be done well. We'll see.

The books are the opposite of cinematic. As noted above, most of the stories boil down to committee meetings, there are a grand total of two memorable characters, and one of them dies after the first chapter.

IOW, they'll have to change a lot to make it work as a dramatic series.

Do the Harry Seldon prequels have a bit more going on, at least more character driven?

Larry Niven would be a better serial choice. At least his stories include sex. devil smiley

I've just downloaded the 'first' Asimov book of the Foundation series from audible.com, Prelude to Foundation.

As many of you know, the series consists of seven books, starting with the original collection of stories in three books, Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation.

Asimov later wrote two sequels and two prequels sequels. While they were written 'out of order', the stories' chronology is:

Prelude to Foundation (1988)
Forward the Foundation (1993)
Foundation (1951)
Foundation and Empire (1952)
Second Foundation (1953)
Foundation's Edge (1981)
Foundation and Earth (1986)

Occasionally, I go with the conventional wisdom of "read the book, then see the movie" and usually ignore "read the book skip the movie", especially if the movie is dress up with needless, gratuitous sex with fully exposes female private bits, a la Total Recall.

I read everything hardcover Asimov, except the Trilogy and won't finish them anytime soon, if ever. LOL.

So I'll watch the series and hope it doesn't screw me up to badly in 'reading' the whole series of books.

To date, I've only listened to a few books I haven't read, and they were dramatizations. While they're something like old radio programs (without foley) they aren't quite the same as reading a book, which I greatly enjoy, but are very convenient.

I'll see how this goes.
