How many hot dogs could you eat in Nathan’s 10 minute contest?

Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo still reign supreme when it comes to the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest.

Nobody else is even close.

Chestnut, 36, wolfed down a world record 75 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes on Saturday to win the Mustard Yellow Belt for the 13th time in 14 years. His total topped his own record of 74, set in 2018.

"It was hard," said Chestnut, who consumed roughly 21,750 calories. "I knew I was fast in the beginning. It was like blistering speed. And the dogs were cooked really well today. Minute six is where I really missed the crowd ... and I hit a wall, and it took me a little bit more work to get through it. This is a crazy year, and I'm happy I was able to get a record."

Darron Breeden finished second to Chestnut with 42 hot dogs and buns. The 33 hot-dog-and-bun margin of victory is the largest since the competition split into men's and women's events in 2011.

Sudo, meanwhile, set a world record by eating 48.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes for her seventh consecutive win in the event. Sonya Thomas had held the record of 45 since 2013.

With her seventh title, Sudo passed Takeru Kobayashi, who won six men's contests, and ranks second only to Chestnut.

I can't watch these things. Yes, because they are gross, but mostly because the thought of dipping hot dog buns in water truly nauseates me.

I doubt I could do much over 35 Nathans hot dogs in 10m.

Maybe a bit over 40 if they're Sabrett.

I want to enjoy the food I eat.

but mostly because the thought of dipping hot dog buns in water truly nauseates me.

wait, so, that's not an okay way to cook a hot dog? These days I always cook them in a frying pan (don't have a grill) but growing up hot dogs were cooked by boiling. Not true anymore?

You must not have seen one of these competitions. They have a bowl of water in front of them, they break the hot dog in two, then dunk it in the water to help them slide down the gullet. Yeah, it's gross.

oh. that's its own brand of desperation. So do they eat just the meat for this contest? not the bun, mustard, relish...

No, it's the whole dog as in hotdog and bun.

It gets broken in half and dipped in water, dog, bun and all.

As for condiments, I don't know how that goes.

I'm pretty sure I saw one or two hotdogs on deck with mustard on them.

Jamming hotdog after hotdog with relish and unyuns could be a real problem.

Read more closely -- it's the part about dipping the hot dog bun in water that grosses him out (and rightly so).

Graylocks you need to try an air fried hot dog. I air fry them until the skin splits with mustard, chili, cheese, and onion.
