He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame

....Country legend Charlie Daniels, 83, died on Monday morning (July 6) after a hemorrhagic stroke.

The singer, fiddler and Country Music Hall of Famer best known for his classic 1979 song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” is survived by his wife, Hazel, and son Charlie Daniels, Jr.

Known as one of country music’s most patriotic personalities, Daniels joined the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

A prolific recording artist, Daniels charted 34 singles on Billboard’s country chart. His Top 10 hits also include “Drinkin’ My Baby Goodbye” from 1986 and “Boogie Woogie Fiddle Country Blues” from 1988. Other notable singles from his catalog include “Uneasy Rider,” “In America,” and “Simple Man.”

He was a bid deal down my way because he was strong supporter of a home for disadvantaged kids. He would put shows on just to raise money for them.

RIP

a home for disadvantaged kids.

They still have those? Seems like foster homes are only what’s acceptable now.

The old school pros always do. I saw ZZ Top in concert a few years ago — they TORE. IT. UP.

I feel sorry for the putz who pays to see Britney Spears or Justin Bieber at 80.

DJ on the radio said the KKK tried to use one of his songs in a commercial and CD was livid when he found out about it! He wanted NOTHING to do with that abomination of an organization.

Always liked the guy and his work. R.I.P.

Early in his career he was detained outside the honky tonk where he was playing. Seems that during the break he was found in the parking lot ripping George Wallace stickers off pick-ups. He later declared he was voting for another George this one a McGovern.

Those sort of views and his sort of music don't always mesh.
