liquidation/surplus websites?

Suppose my brother-in-law wanted to buy 100 8-inch Windows tablets. No one seems to make an 8-inch any more (he feels 10-inch would be too big for restaurant servers to hold in one hand). What surplus websites or auctions might I look at?

VA Tech (and probably other large colleges) has a surplus auction in Blacksburg, VA every six weeks or so--or did, up until COVID. Liberty University has a surplus site too. I don't know anything else about it though.

Wow, I haven't posted to the tablet thread in almost 3 years, but that was for the largest tablets.

Anyone know what the largest tablet/interactive screen available is?

Two days ago Dealnews had a 7" HD (no OS specified, former Sharper Image item) tablet for $39 (still looks to be valid)

1 month old Dealnews points to Lenovo Tab 3 8’’ HD Android for $75.

Refurb 7" Bez-azon Fire tablets are about $50 if you are willing to accept some visual defects.

Thanks, but these have to run Windows; not Android.

Lots of colleges and cities have surplus auctions; I was hoping there'd be a consolidated website sort of like Craigslist for auctions all across the country.

What version of Windows? There was a listing for Dell 8" Windows 8.1 tablets on Newegg. They are $150, I figured that would be too much. Might be able to knock off 15% if he buys all they have.

Edit: some ARM/Android tablets will run Windows CE with a little prodding.

Thanks. I know we looked at NewEgg earlier today; maybe I didn't see that one because I was searching for 2 GB memory.

We've also sent emails to a couple of Chinese manufacturers through Alibaba. The related problem we're having is finding any sort of shockproof case for these oddball tablets—really for anything other than an iPad. All the cases now are the thin portfolio type.

I think that if he is deploying 100 tablets he should figure out what he needs to load on them and how he is going to accomplish this, keep them up to date, and manage them.

I would recommend he find some sort of MDM to manage them. The device itself isn't the problem to solve first.

It's specialized software used in restaurants, not general applications like Office or a browser or something. The tablets become part of the restaurant's networked system used for ordering, kitchen display, printing checks, gift cards, inventory, timecards and payroll, everything. He knows it runs on Windows tablets, that it needs 2GB memory, that a USB port is helpful for offering a credit card swiper add-on.

What we're having trouble finding is 8-inch tablets AND shockproof cases that fit them. We can look into custom cases if we've gotten 100 tablets cheaply.

Windows?
The top systems using tablets are:
Toast POS: Android [reviews.financesonline.com]
TouchBistro: iPad [reviews.financesonline.com]

imho, cobbling together a Windows based tablet POS could be a nightmare
(and quite possibly a moneypit) !

We're not cobbling together anything; he's a MicroSale dealer. We're just trying to get together an inventory of tablets WITH shockproof cases that he can sell, 4 or 6 at a time, to various restaurant clients over the next year.
