Seattle Kraken...ugh.

Seattle announced the name of their new NHL team today...the Kraken. That's about the most hideous name I could think of, and the logo...looks, to me, like it was designed by a 10 year old in 10 minutes between classes. Nonetheless, the team should take the ice in the 2021-22 season. I'll just call them the Metropolitans and wear my Mets jersey from the 1919 Stanley Cup team.

The name and the logo are fine.

By this time next year or sooner, nobody'll give a damn, except those with the propensity to shake umbrellas at the sky.

There are far worse names they could have chosen, many that the Phorum software might not abide.

Is this Kraken singular or plural? Are they Kraken or Krakens? Is the team the Kraken or is each team member a Kraken?

If it is singular, would the plural be Krakens? Krakenen?
I just looked up Norweigian Plurals, is it Krakener?

Should have been Metropolitans. The name already has a rich heritage in Seattle, as the first US team to win the Cup. A Korean immigrant purchased the trademark in the US several years ago and was willing to sell it to the NHL for a reasonable price. If I were him, I'd start marketing the crap out of the Mets and the associated gear. They might officially be known as the Kraken, but I'm sure that a significant portion will refer to the team as the Mets.

This might have won, but it was disqualified at the onset since one of the divisions in the eastern conference is called "Metropolitan" (and it's a really stupid name).

also... as a west coast hockey fan... this really completes the NHL move west. Now there are many teams out hear in the far west. The 'Pacific' division used to include a team in Dallas. Western teams were really spread out then. Now the team in Phoenix will have to move out of the Pacific division.

The instant rivalry with Vancouver will be great fun.

There are many teams that have normal names. Why do they need to make it into some kind of marketable cartoon?
DC's football club is "DC United".
Manchester's football club is "Manchester United FC".
Madrids football club is Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, simply "Real Madrid".
You don't see the big sports teams being named for fictional monsters, or local legends. That kind of name is reserved for Beer Leagues. Metropolitans would have been so much better. It would have been sophisticated and different. Instead they just have another made up name that has nothing to do with Seattle, other than it has a harbor with water. I doubt that the football team in Loch Ness is named the 'Monsters', but I'm sure that they market the team poking fun at Nessie in some way. The Metropolitans could have done the same. Their mascot could have been a wookie/sasquatch or an octapus or something that actually relates to the PNW.

Note: I looked up the team in Loch Ness. They're Loch Ness FC. They do indeed have shirts featuring Nessie.
