World's simplest dipping sauce (at least, something that's composed of only three ingredients):

1 part mustard : 1 part mayo : 1 part honey.

You can make it more fancy (use different types of mustard or mayo, organic versus non-, add additional seasonings, etc., etc.), but that's the gist of it. [pinchofyum.com]
(Edit -- when I make it, I use as the "secret ingredient"... obviously, now, not so secret! ... a pinch to a 1/2 teaspoon of either cayenne or paprika.)

Just screwing with you. On the West Coast, the brand name is Best Foods. Same company and formula. And I can tell the difference between it and most store brands too.

I can see that. Pub mustard would be my tweak.

If I put the cayenne/paprika in, then I use plain yellow mustard, because it makes for a nice color contrast (and if I don't have either of those, then I just use black pepper). If I don't have any of those, or if Just feel like making it different, then I use spicy brown mustard.

This sauce also goes very well with egg products, e.g., topping on hardboiled eggs, a sauce on top of poached (similar in use to Hollendaise/bearnaise), inside of an omelette, or even a little mixed in with scrambled.

.....we can suggest til the cows come home but if you don't like ketchup or don't like mayo, etc.....it won't matter......


.....some people like making their own thousand island........they also have the new flavored mayos now....garlic mayo, chipotle mayo, srirachi mayo....

My go-to move has been to add some Sriracha to whatever is in the refrigerator -- BBQ sauce, honey mustard, etc. Not exactly homemade but does the job.

The big exception: ranch dressing, which is disgusting and should be banned (my family disagrees).

I scabbed this from a video I watched recently on making chicken sandwich. it's good.

1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1 tsp Dijon Mustard
3 tsp Yellow Mustard
2 tsp BBQ Sauce (Sweet Hickory tastes the best)
2 Tbsp Honey
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Paprika
1 tsp Lemon Juice

Best Foods does not taste as good as it did 40 years ago.

It depends on what you want to dip. I use mustard with a little mayo on chicken. Sweet Baby Ray's on ham, sometimes on burgers if I am tired of ketchup.

Recipe for a weeks worth of fry sauce Atal drive in . Same. basic since late 60's .
1 gallon of salad dressing like best foods. 1 64oz. ketchup. 1 32oz french's yellow mustard . Last time I ate there the new owners have tweeakedthe amounts and brands but still basically the same.

All the crap added to mayo is so it is shelf stable for months and months. I'll bet that 40 years ago, there was no expectation that the mayo would be on a store shelf or in the supply chain for more than a few months, and it would be consumed within a year.

I just checked our Best Foods mayo, and it has a lot of stuff in it. I've made mayo before. Eggs, olive oil, pinch of salt and my Cuisinart. Combine the oil slowly as the eggs wizz. Done.

equal parts mayo + mustard + generous amount of Lawry's Seasoned Salt. good on fish or chicken. adjust to 60/40 if you like a more mustard tang.

Dad called it "secret" sauce when I was a kid 40 years ago... and now serve it to my kids. they love it on fish sticks, breaded shrimp, chicken strips, etc. pretty much wont eat it without.

second runner up -- ranch. hidden valley made with buttermilk and packet, chilled. not from a bottle, blech.

Cane's Chicken Sauce_

1/2 C Mayonaise
1/4 C Ketchup
1/2 Tsp. Garlic Salt
1/4 Tsp. Worchesteshire Sauce
1/4 Tsp. Black pepper

For more zip - Substitute Cayenne pepper for the Black pepper.

I want to dip it, not bathe in it. No, that sounds pretty good and should be easy to scale down. There was a restaurant here from the 40s-70s that had a similar "famous" house dressing that was addictive.
