I tend to have a lot of tabs open at any one time and I find it difficult to keep them well organized and identifiable. For instance I will have:
Window 1-Volunteer work tabs
Window 2-Music practice tabs (youtube, various ukulele websites)
Window 3-Social (MacResource, facebook, etc)
Window 4-Whatever I'm researching at the moment

While this works it's sometimes difficult to quickly switch to the correct window without cycling thru them. If the browser (safari) gets shut down it's a pain to reopen them and organize them like this. Is there a better way to handle this?

I do a "Add Bookmarks for these XX Tabs"
Give it a name "XXXXX_Date" in favorites and then close the Window.

When needed open new window and clock on "XXXXX_Date" and all tabs reopen.
Rinse and repeat as needed.

In Safari, under the Windows menu, there should be a "Open All Windows from Last Session" choice. FireFox has a similar method to restore a previous session.

I use multiple browsers to keep all of these tabs straight. Switching between apps is easier than digging through dozens of tabs.

and ALL of my browsers are set to 'begin where I left off' so that all tabs are reopened when the browser is relaunched.

Same as hal.

All work stuff is in FF.
All fun stuff is in Chrome
Any extra stuff goes in Safari or Edge.

Have you considered using OS X 'spaces" -- I think I know *how* they work, but trying to decide *if* they will work how I want.

And they all should restore exactly as you left before a shutdown or restart. I do this with FF daily.

Yep, if you're switching between more than 2 windows full of tabs then it's time for another browser.

Too bad OS X won't allow copies of a single app to run simultaneously.

I suppose you could keep some windows on a separate monitor too.

You can start Safari multiple times from the command line but I wouldn't know how to keep them straight. Lots of good ideas here. Thank you. I had anticipated some kind of 3rd party bookmark manager but maybe that isn't needed.

FWIW (and you may know this) but in iOS, Safari can have multiple pages with tabs on each one, as though you were running multiple browsers.

I don’t quite know how it works, but one day double-clicking the home button, I discovered I was running multiple Safari pages. Now I have one where I stash recent stocks/investment recommendations, one for computer issues, etc, etc, and one for that day that usually contains news items I want to keep around for a short while. I currently have 27 tabs open on 4 different windows/pages.

It’s like multiple windows in Safari on Mac, but seems a little easier to navigate (although I have yet to figure out how to drag a tab from one page to another easily). And if it slows Safari down in iOS, I haven’t really noticed it.

Almost the exact same setup with one addition - I have 3 tabs that open in Camino!!
