USPS: "Delivery Attempted - No Access to Delivery Location"
Posted by: PeterB
Date: August 13, 2020 04:32PM
This is a fairly frequent message I'm now getting on stuff ordered on Amazon, supposed to be delivered by USPS.

The problem? I have an open porch with no gate, no dog, no nothing ... just a set of steps up to a door on a porch. So I don't see how they have no access.

Is this just USPS's new way of saying, "we're too lazy to deliver" ?

At least they're actually updating the tracking information. I've had several packages that will just sit for weeks with no updates. Currently waiting on a Priority Mail package for 2+ weeks and a First Class package that only has to go 30 miles that finally got an update after 10ish days. And that's not even counting the packages I've completely given up on as lost.

USPS mail is being intentionally slowed by USPS administration. This will be hardest on vets and other people who receive vital material like prescriptions thru the mail.

I know some of those guys. They can't afford for this to happen.

I know we can't talk about it but most of us know what's going on. A good friend of mine is the Local Chairman for the carriers union and he said it's a dang mess.

To say what the cause of this is would get the thread moved to the dark side of the forum. The whole situation is BS.

I've had two packages sent back to the sender with the explanation "undeliverable". I have a box for packages and my front patio is easily accessible so there's no reason for this and I can't explain it. I received packages vis USPS multiple days a week. Why would some packages get delivered and not others? It makes no sense.

That's what I get when the driver runs short of time and can't get it done on this day.

You made it too easy.

It's obviously a trap.

Did you use USPS tracking or Amazon tracking?

I've seen Amazon get... "creative" with their interpretation of USPS status notices.

It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

My wife led a study-abroad group to Guatemala. They had privatized their mail system. The private company and the government got into a dispute recently and there was no mail delivery for over a year - so things could be worse.

When my wife prints a label through eBay now it actually says up top in a note that you may want to select something besides USPS at this time due to delays.

Yea, I've changed all my free shipping options to USPS Parcel Select, even if I plan to ship with First Class or Priority mail, just for the extra timeframe. But I'll likely ship everything FedEx Ground.

That would seem to be one of the things the new Postmaster General was hoping would happen.

Update: Amazon page says that delivery would be reattempted the next business day... that would be today.

Did the package show up? Nope...

To answer Sarcany's question, the "no access to delivery location" only shows up on the USPS tracking page, not Amazon's... Amazon's page just says that there was a problem with delivery.

And yes, I am aware of what the problems may be (I didn't post this on the other side), but... getting this particular message has actually happened occasionally for several months now, so it predates the most recent change in USPS leadership.

Mercari just sent out an alert that their shippers should use UPS.

Call your local postmaster - if you can find a number.
