OK, who wins the battle of Lightning vs. USB C?

Riddle me this...?

Power bank plays nice when USB-C to USB-C cable is inserted. LCD display only comes on when power bank is charging or getting charged via that cable. This is desired behavior (I think).

When Anker USB-C to Lightning cable is inserted into same/only USB-C port, LCD display turns on, and stays lit until cable is removed. USB-A to Lightning cable works fine, BTW. No power used via C port; just LCD stays on. Night light feature?

What gives? and why?
There's a Lightning "in" port, so the Anker cable can still remain attached, but wazzup w/ the LCD thingy w/ the USB-C port? Thanks.

All depends on circuit design in the power bank.

Hell, I have two externals that run just fine (fast) connected via USB3!

Could you please 'splain enough more so that it makes sense why the power bank is the culprit? (Instead of the cable?)

The power bank has three input ports; mUSB, USB-C, and Lightning, w/ the USB-C being the only bidirectional port. With the two flavors of USB-A output ports, that gives it 3 in and 3 out. w/ the only the USB-C port pulling double duty. FWIW, plugging the subject cable into the Lightning port, w/ its USB-C port flapping in the wind, does not trigger the LCD display.

I do have a similar (C to L) cable, from Aukey, in my (not used lately) travel bag that I could dig out... it was not scheduled for use until the end of the month when we're supposed to house sit while the in-laws take care of some family & medical stuff. I was hoping to find the answer before then. FWIW2, one of the USB-A (out only) ports is spec'ed the same output as the C port, and it plays nice w/ another Anker Lightning cable w/ an A connector. IIRC, the Anker C cable has a higher power rating than its A cable cousin; it's definitely thicker and stiffer, if power handling capability could possibly be the culprit?.

Thanks.
