I got my flu shot today- Beat the tsunami get yours now
Posted by: Steve G.

Yep, the signs were up at CVS as I passed by today, so I got my (free) flu shot.
I was talking to the person administering it and she said they expected that everyone would realize they have to get theirs soon and they were expecting an avalanche of people. (Now that folks are more disease aware, especially in NYC).

So beat the rush. Get your flu shot now.

I need to pick up meds at the store tomorrow. I'll ask. The 1 time I missed it in 30+ years, most of the extended family was taken out by the stomach flu because a sister-in-law brought her sick son to Christmas because she didn't want to disappoint him. So 11 of us paid the price. No idea why THEY hadn't gotten their shot, or if the strain wasn't covered by the shot.

We still call him Typhoid Quinn.

At a former job, flu shots were free every year, and done on-site for the entire day. Family was free too, if they came to the main entrance and got a temp pass. WAY cheaper than all the lost time, especially at the end of the year when historically we were slammed to close out contracts.

And WEAR A MASK AND WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to see if my Stage 1 shingles shot is still recent enough for Stage 2.

Thanks for the reminder of a flu shot.

Maybe I'll head out to Kaiser tomorrow.

Or maybe I could try CVS...

For a flu shot, just about anyone who takes your insurance will do the flu shot. I get my prescriptions from my local QFC grocery. One of the Kroger brands. They do various inoculations like flu and shingles. That's where I get mine unless I have a Dr's appt in September or early october. But this year, I'll get it as soon as possible.

Yeah, my next Dr's appt is Oct. May call the hospital pharmacy and schedule it.
Saw the signs up last week @ CVS & others. If you're on Medicare it's free just about everywhere!

Thanks for the nudge Steve thumbsup smiley

For a second, I thought the CVS flu shoots were free, but it appears they're free with insurance coverage.

I have Kaiser, and they don't play.

Or pay, lol.

So it's Kaiser for me.

I need to check with Publix and see when they will have them.
Last year they would give you a $10 Publix gift card, if you got one

Oh well, the one negative about working from home. No more flu shots administered while at work. Guess it'll be the Stop and Shop Pharmacy for me this year.

And once again, I'm sure my wife won't get one.banghead smiley

Just get one, and WEAR A DAMN MASK!

If people could bring themselves to wear a mask, the flu will be far less virulent this year.

Good point. I'll e-mail my doc, and ask her opinion.

I wondered if it might be a bit early.

My wife's birthday is late September and as part of her BD celebration we walk up to the nearby Walgreens and get our shots.

Thinking about the Shingles shots. A friend who has taken the first one said he had side effects that seemed like COVID symptoms causing some concern. My health policy indicates that it will be much cheaper (for me) to get it at a pharmacy than at my doctor's office. Weird.

They offered me one as well. I usually get mine in October at work, but I'll be working from home, perhaps for the rest of my career ? I'm a little leery of getting one this early.. the last time they got it wrong I really should have been hospitalized.

If you're staying home, do you really need a flu shot?

No, as long as you keep 12 feet away from any human who does go out or associates with one who does until around, oh, May.

While the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has not yet voted on the flu vaccine recommendations for 2020-2021, CDC does not anticipate a major change in the recommendation on timing of vaccination. Getting vaccinated in July or August is too early, especially for older people, because of the likelihood of reduced protection against flu infection later in the flu season. September and October are good times to get vaccinated. However, as long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue, even in January or later.

U.S. Influenza stats for the 2017-2018 season:
45,000,000 influenza illnesses
20,000,000 influenza-associated medical visits
800,000 influenza-related hospitalizations
61,000 influenza-associated deaths

Instead of the usual brief mention in the news, I wonder if the media will sensationalize it this year with daily infection rates and daily death tally.

If you are on Medicare, that's because the Shingles shot is covered under Part D, but not A or B.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Still going to call him Typhoid Quinn though.
