With the four for one split approaching rapidly, would you buy one share now or wait until it splits on the 24th and buy four of them?

I'm assuming you have a brokerage account set up and ready to go with funds available. If you don't purchase today. Are the funds just sitting there doing nothing?

My sister has an e*trade account already set up. The 24th is her birthday. I'd have to check with her to see if she's got the funds already transferred and ready to pounce. We were just wondering if it's better to do it now or wait until the split. AAPL has been climbing since we started talking about it.

We have no idea where the price will go but if you think its worth buying tomorrow then you're likely better off buying it today.

I guess one question that should have been asked - are you looking at a long term hold or just short term investment?

Longterm - buy now, the small fluctuations won't matter.
Shortterm - get it on a down day and be ready to sell when your price is hit (be it high or be it low)

I would say buy now.....prices usually go up after a split.

Remember, for every person buying a stock believing it is going to go up, there’s someone else selling that same stock believing that it’s going to go down.

Yes, after a split a stock will usually dip because of the run up to the split.

Hmmm....I thought post split shares being more affordable induced more share purchasing and hence drove prices up.

Yes, that’s the idea but history says after the split, the price drops. Also, now that brokers are selling fractional shares, a split isn’t quite as big a deal.

Unrelated, but if it goes up another 5%, I’ll be back where I was in August 2018 when I road it down and then sold it just $10 from its lowest price before it climbed to where it is today. Sell low, buy high.

Stock splits are cosmetic. The splits themselves don't affect prices. However, since stock splits generally are conducted when a company has been seeing good growth there is an illusion that the continued growth after the split has something to do with the split. This is generally false.
