Should it take 2 months for a charge to show up on a credit card?

I noticed a small charge on my Amex credit card this morning that I didn't recognize.

I called the merchant, and they said it was for something that I ordered back on July 5th, and that I received. They said that my card transaction had been tried twice before it finally processed (as pending) today.

I did indeed receive the item.

I always thought that a credit card transaction had to process before a merchant would ship something? Not true?

I never heard of this, usually they charge you right away and they drag their feed to issues a refund.

Check your previous 2 statements to make sure you didn't get charged back then and again now.

It's a surprise that they sent it before the charge was processed. It's an honorable and trusting merchant.

I'm more irritated by places that charge the card before they ship, discover that it's out of stock and then want me to arrange to get a refund. I'm thinking Lowes.

If they're competent.

Check for a second charge. If its not there then just forget about it.

I believe Federal Law prevents sellers from billing you until the item ships. It's possible that an order you placed MONTHS ago (and possibly forgot about?) finally got back in stock so they were finally able to ship. As already mentioned, check your previous billing statements.

Earlier this week, I received TWO bills from Amazon MARKETPLACE. I had not ordered ANYTHING from Amazon MARKETPLACE so, I called them. It turns out that, for some unknown reason, items I HAD ordered (automotive lubricants) had finally shipped. Why Amazon listed its' MARKETPLACE on my bill was beyond me (and, the Amazon rep I spoke with).

Feces occurs.

The item shipped almost immediately back in July.

Have you checked your bills to be sure you weren't charged back then?

I'm finding that's happening more and more, at least charging the cost at the time one places an order.

It's probably true with other cards as well, but I like using my Apple Card, as I get a notification the card's been charged within maybe 5sec of clicking the Place Order button, or less.

I will say, for the most part, the refunds have been automatic.

The seller sends an email saying OOS, transaction cancelled, my money is being refunded.
