I am one of those people that has had a .mac email address since pretty much day one.

The weird thing is that although I actually can use my user@mac.com or user@icloud.com...but user@me.com was claimed by a different person, and I get a number of emails for them. It's been happening for years.

I don't really use the .mac email. It just forwards directly to my gmail account...and hopefully not to the other person.

A buddy that works for Apple explained that email in the apple.com domain are reserved for only the highest level execs. Regular employees are given .mac emails.

Whenever I give me @mac email to an AS employee, I inevitably hear, “Oh, that’s so retro.” Wtf, I’m supposed to use iCloud? Or @me ??? Who cares?

I apologize. This was referred to in an earlier thread and I missed it. Sorry to clutter the board.

I am now retroactively proud of my (long-defunct) apple.com address from 1993...

Vanity email addresses are so 1990s. jk. If I still had my yankees@mac.com email address I'd feel the same as you.

I got my .mac address as soon as it was available and it's one of my two primary addresses.

I do have to be careful when sending email from it or another one its aliases as it sometimes wants to send as .icloud, which I've never used.

The .me has never darkened my email, not once.

I don’t think I have mine anymore? I seem to recall them forcing me to change it in order to use an Apple ID or some such.

Yeah, I stopped using mine when they started charging a fee. There was quite an uproar about it at the time, especially (IIRC) Jobs had promised at the launch that your .mac would be your address "forever."

I think I had one at some point, but never used it. I also used to have an AT&T Worldnet account, and a Yahoo account. I think the Yahoo one is still valid... I think I logged in a couple of years ago.

There are probably a half dozen other old email accounts I no longer use. If/when I ever change internet providers, I'll have to give up my RoadRunner accounts. I have two. One was setup for a business that's long since been shuttered. It's now my throwaway account when I'm forced to give an email when I don't really want to. The other is my iTunes account. Once Gmail came out, it's my primary email account.

So do my in-laws. When they call and say "AOL isn't working," that's octogenarian for "the internet is out."

LOL! My favorite octogenarians have their own code for the same problem. I'm off to call them in a few minutes for the latest incidence, in fact.

It is what it is.
