Why do a lot of places get this wrong? Restore and stay on old iOS

I had forgotten how easy it was to restore iOS from backup while remaining on old iOS. Did a search and found so much misinformation.

Phone had been acting up. Screen going black with a rotating ring/circle in center. Assuming it was a restart/crash happening. First suggestion from googling, make more room on your phone. Did that and it still kept happening. I figure a restore would fix the problem and it did. The only problem was I had forgotten how to restore from backup without upgrading iOS. So googled that and tried the “solutions”. Most all of them were wrong.

Anyways the proper procedure is to backup your phone.(iTunes or iCloud) Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all contents and settings. After restart, Link iPhone to Wi-Fi, enter your Apple ID, restore from backup. I chose ITunes backup. Up and running after about an hour from restore. No problems since and still on iOS 12.4.1

Yes I know apple test their iOS before sending it out into the wild. But they also send out poor updates, so they have to fix the update problem with another update. iOS 12.4.1 Still works for everything I need so far.

Good advice. Its all about the backup.

FWIW, iOS 14 beta on my OG SE is very zippy, noticably. Happy. =)

Yes, 14 has been zippy and stable on my iPhone 8+ and 1st gen iPad Pro.
