if I were a billionaire, this would be something I flittered money away on. Then when they do the documentary of how I lost it all, they can roll the video of me driving this things.

Ok, that is really, really very cool!

I'm not keen on the location of the hidden controls and instrumentation being so far below eye level.

The HUGE BUG plates, I could do without.

I'd have regular plates and just play off the size as though its size were normal.

But I would have a diesel truck horn hidden for the errant driver who drifts too close.

Most people aren't aware of target acquisition when driving, and per the narration, some need a wake up call.

The 5.7L V-8 Hemi is a nice choice for that 'bug', as is the A/T.

Love the fake clutch pedal.

A very cool project, far more palatable I suspect, than many other vehicles that may be on the Ridiculous Rides show.

Thank you for that link!

Very cool! But it's not a bug without an air-cooled engine. wink smiley

I wonder how they got around the 5mph bumper rule. And I wonder how the insurance company comes up with a rate for that thing. Then again, they could just make something up. For what it must have cost to build the car, I can't imagine insurance premiums would be an issue.

What 5 MPH bumper rule? That went away decades ago.

They did an amazing job of faithfully recreating the original but it must have cost a fortune to produce all the parts at the larger scale.

VW is missing out on an opportunity here.

And given that the made digital scans of every part, they could also start production of normal scale 1959 VWs too. Or maybe small kiddie cars.

I don't like the drop-down instrument panel either. I would prefer a "rollover" where the VW panel rotates out of view and the active panel rotates into view. Or slide back and slide in from the side. Or just have the original panel be a decal on a plate that slides up and over the real deal. The real deal could be a heads up display on the windshield.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
