......episodes begin Oct. 15th.....

New Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Trailer Teases Life in the Year 3188, and How the Federation Got Burned

.....When Star Trek: Discovery returns with Season 3, Burnham, Saru et al have traveled more than 930 years into the future — and at some point during that span of time, “the galaxy took a hard left,” leaving the Federation a shell of its former self.

A 32nd-century stranger named Cleveland “Book” Booker (played by Supergirl‘s David Ajala) drops that bombshell in the new trailer for the CBS All Access series, which returns with new, weekly episodes starting Thursday, Oct. 15.

Released along with the above trailer, all as part of CBS All Access’ virtual Star Trek Day celebration on Tuesday, is a first look at Discovery‘s new logo (which reflects this season’s jump into the future) as well as a poster symbolizing the crew’s mission to rebuild the Federation:

Discovery‘s Season 3 cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green (as Commander Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), Tig Notaro (Jett Reno) and the aforementioned Ajala.

Also appearing in the new season are Blu del Barrio (as Adira, a highly intelligent character with a confidence and self-assurance well beyond their years), Ian Alexander (as Gray, a transgender character eager to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Trill host) and Michelle Yeoh (returning as Philippa Georgiou).

discover........the possibilities......?!

I thought the show had been cancelled due to lack of interest.

I certainly haven't seen any of it yet.

I finally buckled down and finished the second season, and towards the end I realized why this show irritates me so much: it’s mis-titled.

All the pseudo-mystical exposition that’s accepted with little question by all the characters, the double-talk “tech" made up on the fly to solve (or create) this episode’s dilemma, the casual rewriting of the rules of the fictional universe to paper over the holes in the scripts, the endless self-referential callbacks…

This show isn’t Star Trek. It’s Dr. Who with uniforms.

Season 3 had basically (if not completely) wrapped before the virus outbreak, so most of the year was spent doing effects & etc. This I think is also why we got the "Strange New Worlds" announcement about the Captain Pike series.

I binged the whole thing through over a few weeks; we had initially signed up to CBS for the Picard series (very enjoyable, IMO, but an odd finalé, though the passing of one character was handled wonderfully), and decided to give it a go.

Weird initial episodes; I get what they were doing but it wasn't very STAR TREK, but more BSG meets JJ Abrams. It got better; casting is quite good and stories, though uneven, had big highlights. Season 2 was a marked improvement but still stumbled -- but, again, if you watch it with an open mind, it's an enjoyable ride, just not a classic STAR TREK (or TNG, or DS9, or VOY, or ENT) one.

S2 highlight was, of course, Pike and the ENTERPRISE, and her crew. Some really great episodes in there; some good world building. It's not your father's STAR TREK, per se, but it's trying to carve its own place.

If nothing else, they got the "retro futurism" right, updating the uniforms, technology, etc. of the ENTERPRISE without making it all but unrecognizable. (an aside (from an interview on the DVD release): Ryan Church, who designed practically all of the JJ Abrams STAR TREK outing, all but hated STAR TREK with its 60s aesthetics and art deco designs, and wanted to make it look "right". He was involved with the STAR WARS prequels, and brought that design feel to the Trek universe, and not for the better. That's just my opinion; I kind of like the 2009 version of the ENTERPRISE but the subsequent versions were terrible. To each his own, though.)

I think the Pike series will be pretty good, and I'll certainly give CBS another shot after it airs.

I know almost all y'all love to hate it, but I really, really like it, and find it an enjoyable wild west spin on Before Things Got More Civilized.

Anson Mount was terrific in Season 2 of Discovery and gets his own ST series— Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and I'm looking forward to it as well.

I find all of these ST new franchises engaging and entertaining, including Picard.

Bring on Season 3!

This show isn’t Star Trek. It’s Dr. Who with uniforms.

It's NEW Doctor Who. Classic Who had better dialog.

Lower Decks is more "Trek" than Discovery.

I'm cool with the new Doctor Who, Discovery and Lower Decks (at least so far).

Barf to all of this.

Real Trek ended in 2005. R.I.P.
