I used a Monoprice HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV to a LG projector to show a movie outside.
Next week I did that again. I take the Apple TV and LG projector outside and I see the HDMI cable on the grill. I connect everything, I start playing a movie on Disney + and it stops saying the display does not support DHCP or something like that. I am puzzled since I did use the previous weekend.
I try Netflix, same thing, it does start to play and a little later it complains.
Restart Apple TV, same issue.
I eventually change the HDMI cable and everything works fine.
Then I ask my wife why the was cable on the grill. She says the lawn guy put it there. Obviously I forgot it outside the whole week. Whether it was the elements that got it, or the lawn mower passed over it, I do not know. There is no visible damage.
So yeah, cables that appear fine can in fact fail.
