I put a peach pit in the ground a about 6 weeks ago, I can't really recall when. I am curious if there will be a little tree growing. Would I expect to see anything this fall or these will only start to grow next year?

Next year, at the soonest. Think about what has to happen to that pit before it sprouts any growth. It is the same way with nuts (not 2-legged).

Earliest next year, that is if anything grows from the pit and breaks through the surface. Modern peaches are grown from shoots grafted to root stock suitable for the soil and region they are being grown in. So if the pit germinates, it may or may not set roots and manage to get a shoot above ground.
