Trying to make room on an iPhone 5

iMac running 10.14.6. iTunes version 12.9.5.5. iPhone 5 iOS 10.3.4.

I have an iPhone 5 that I use as a backup phone and I also use it for music. We have a function next Sunday that I've loaded music into iTunes to be used for the event. When I plug in the phone and go to iTunes, I don't have enough room on the phone to load the music.

OK, I delete some old photos to make space to load the music and I unplug the phone, then plug it back in and I should see the extra room now, right? No-it still shows the same amount of free space and no reduction in the amount of photos. My Trash can on the Desktop is empty.

I quit iTunes, unplug the phone, plug it back it in, fire up iT, but no dice. Go to iCloud where I have a free account and there I see what I deleted from the phone. Delete those (and a few other images) from iCloud, do the whole shut down, unplug thing but still it shows no change in the free space on the phone!

What am I missing here?

Did you "empty the trash" on the phone?

When you "delete" a photo on the phone, it goes into the "Recently Deleted" album for 30 days and then is deleted. You can go into the Recently Deleted album (it's usually at the bottom of the album page), select the photos and then delete the photos in limbo immediately which should free up the space.

If you've already done that, I'm outta guesses.

Don't know about "Recently Deleted". Where is it?

Photos - Albums -> Recently Deleted. Gotta empty that before you'll see any change. Or wait 30 days and it'll empty automagically.

Got the extra space but now I can't copy the playlist to the iPhone, which I have done with all the other music! WTF?

Wow. What craziness.

I can't copy the playlist from my iMac to the iPhone5 BUT! On the phone, when I go to Music, it's showing the purchased music under Recently Added. OK, so I make a new Playlist, and drag the music to the new playlist! It's there but I can't play it. Then I see the cloud-with-a-down-arrow icon to the songs which I activate and there it all is downloaded to the phone!

However, I somehow missed naming the Playlist, but at least it's the only one named Untitled Playlist, so...

Itunes. In the beginning it was simple and easy.

Now, it's been made into TV.
