Plus, they probably get retirement benefits and such. But, you'd have to learn a foreign language to understand the citizens. (ha)

The same police who thought a LITE BRITE looked scary?

They're overpaid.

I don't begrudge them the pay. They put their lives on the line daily.

No. There's a seperate form to report bribe pay and free donuts and those figures are then discarded in accordance with official policy.

You know, I have no problem with this. I have a much greater problem with CEO's pay, really. And Wall Street Bankers.

Note that the "good pay" is more a result of overtime and special detail assignments.

Some of my local cops retire with $150K in accumulated sick and vacation time and are earning $100k/year before all of the OT and stipend pay they receive kick in. I tell people that public safety salaries are what drive your local municipal property tax rate more than anything else.

It's not bad for a job that requires no college degree.

That depends on where you want to work. Many places require an AA at the minimum. And advancement can depend heavily on, if not require, continuing education.

In CA, most larger departments offer incentives for successful completion of advanced training apart from advance schooling. Often these incentives are used in computing *salary* increases instead of the private sector where the base salary is the only consideration.

Yeah, easy money.

Seattle PD is at least an AA, and many have a BS decree in criminal sciences. I don't think a BS is required, but your starting pay is higher, and you increase at a faster rate.
