New Apple Watches?

My wife’s generation two Apple Watch needs to be replaced due to the battery not lasting anymore. I heard new watches were introduced this week. I’m not reading anything revolutionary. Anything I should be aware of before I order?

We are shopping now to replace my wife's Series 1.

The SE model does not have the always-on screen.

My wife wants the 40mm model, but her eyesight suggests the larger screen would be better.

Which one are you ordering? and what size?

Compared to her Gen 2 -- changes are pretty significant -- size, speed, sensors, battery, waterproof, more.

Just dont get a 3.

The blood oxygen sensor which, God forbid, might come in handy in these times.

I had a series 2 and just ordered a series 6. I think the always on will be nice and all of the health tracking — including fall detection. A friend of mine died in July after a fall at night and he was discovered the next day.

Boy are we getting OLD, not ready to upgrade from my Series 2 but the Fall Detection thing did catch my attention. I am not there yet, but find it harder and harder each year sometimes getting up after kneeling down or getting on the floor to get something.

We all grunt and groan to get up but sometimes you have to pause and PLAN how you are going to get up....

Series 6 ordered. I was really impressed, my wife spent an hour+ going over reviews, Apple specs and all watch band options. Won't arrive for about a month.

Favorite line : 'What kind of watch do I have?' Me - 'Series 1.'

'Well, that last video said the Series 3 was the first good Apple Watch.'

Will be quite the upgrade over her Series 1 and its never-functioning pedometer...

Series 6 for me.

I'll probably pass on the cellular option.

My S5 is worth $180 on trade-in, and 3% back.

I may do the installment plan, since it's interest free, but only if I can pay it off in one year instead of two.

I'll inquire later today.

I would think you could get more than $180 reselling a S5 in good condition.

Yes, except for the oxygen sensor requirements - the watch needs to be NEXT to your skin for that to work. Now I know why Apple is shipping with the new stretchy bands - they are to be sure the sensor has the best chance at working, has nothing to do with fashion.

Third party single loop stretch bands have been around for years.

O2 sensor is a nice addition for some peeps but mostly a niche item.

But a red orange band that matches your new Brandy Melville blouse is an essential. ;)

I might jump in this time. Can't really decide if I need the O2 sensor for an extra $300.

Bands are also inexpensive with a wide selection on e-bay.

Always-on display is also important feature of the S6 vs SE.

I have a S4, and it works better now that the screen turns on when I move my wrist!

? A brand new 6 is $399. How can it be an extra $300? Vs $280 for an SE?

I ordered an S6 with cellular to replace my S3 (which replaced my S0). I am looking forward to the bigger screen and the new watch faces.

Oh. Hard to tell with the apparent zillions of various options.

So, if the display is always on what does that do to the non-replaceable battery life?

It's in excellent condition, but no matter.

Of course, it would fetch more in private sale, but I don't care for the agita of hoping all goes well.

And I'm almost considering keeping it, as it's Space Gray and the S6 will be Gold.

It will shorten it, if you let it.

Always On is an option.

I can't remember if it was On my default when I got my S5 or if I had to enable it.

But it will drain the Watch more quickly.

I have no idea how quickly that might be, if at all.

Depending on what else you have active, you could trade that feature for another.

The more often you have to charge it, and the more often it's allowed to run low, the shorter the overall life.

I keep it Off, but I see a lot of people using it with no complaints, not that that's any accurate metric of anything but the option being popular.
